Franklin ParkExplore the park with your drawing pad! The Jamaica Plain Artists Association and FPC member, Mardi Reed, join with the Franklin Park Coalition & Discover Roxbury to offer a special sketching tour of the park for artists of all levels.

You'll see old stone ruins, Puddingstone boulders, and maybe even a hawk in the park's 130-year-old oak forest. See the spectacular views from Schoolmaster's Hill where Ralph Waldo Emerson once lived and sheep used to graze. Free! 10am - 1pm

"Kids Can..." Boston Children's Chorus Season Finale
Boston Children's ChorusNow an established Strand Theatre tradition, the All Choir Spring Concert celebrates one of the city's top choruses. Free event!

For "This is the Sound of Movies," more than 300 children's voices will fill the Strand Theatre with songs from many of your favorite movies in the Boston Children's Chorus spirited season-ending performance. From Silver Screen classics like "Gone with the Wind," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Disney's Alice in Wonderland," to the more recent "Harry Potter" and "The Princess Diaries" there is something for everyone on the fun, family-friendly program. 2-4pm.

Rachel Weisz in the MummyAdams Street Library is showing The Mummy for FREE!

English librarian Evelyn Carnahan becomes interested in an archaeological dig at the ancient city of Hamunaptra. She gains the help of Rick O'Connell, after saving him from death. Meanwhile, another group of explorers are interested in the same dig. Unfortunately for everyone, they disturb the rest of the dead High Priest Imhotep. Now 'The Mummy' is awake, and it's going to take a lot more than guns to send him back to where he came from!

3rd Annual Cops for Charity Cook Off

ChefsPlease join Districts B-2 & B-3 in helping to raise money for the children in the community who need support with deliciously prepared foods by police officers and police personnel. Come to sample a variety of different foods that will support the Districts' summer and holiday programs.

The Cook Off is on Thursday, May 27th from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

Register Now for the Annual Youth Climate Summit, May 22

ClimateWho: The Summit is open to all students in grades 7-12 as well as to the educators of students in grades 7-12.

What: A day of green vendors and grassroots displays, as well as climate change speakers and workshops. At the 2009 Summit, over 300 students, from 70 different schools across the greater metropolitan area attended. All who register (online) will be entered into a drawing for great door prizes such as iPods, gift certificates, and more.

Cost: FREE

When: Saturday, May 22, 2010 at MIT. Space at the 2010 Summit is limited, so
register early, and make sure to sign up soon for the particular workshops that you hope to

Stitch HouseDid you know food containers, chip bags, and plastic bottles will not decompose in your lifetime?

The Dorchester Youth Council invites youth to help bring awareness to the litter problem in the community, help increase public knowledge of the impacts of litter and provide ways everyone can make a difference in keeping Dorchester litter-free.

The Dorchester Youth Council will now be accepting print PSAs (including posters, comic strips, photograph PSAs, or radio PSAs) in addition to video PSAs. Also, due to a generous donation of $1000 from SCI (Social Capital Inc.), the Dorchester Youth Council will award three cash prizes.
 
· First Place: $750
· Second Place: $450
· Third Place: $300

Bike WeekBike Week is May 17-21! There are tons of activities this week, such as the bike commuting event on Friday.  Join DotBike and help to make Dorchester the largest convoy on Friday May 21st  to "Mayor Menino's Bike Festival" at City Hall Plaza, where you'll be met with a free breakfast from Boloco, a bike festival and expo with music and tons of free giveaways.

Illustration of the WeekLocated on Pleasant Street on the site of the present Edward Everett School, this house was built in 1779 by Moses Everett, minister of the First Parish Church.  Moses Everett was Edward Everett's uncle.  The house was later owned by the Appleton family.  It was demolished in 1909 when the new Edward Everett School was built, moving to this site from its location off Sumner Street.  Click the image to see a larger version. 
 
If you didn't visit the Dorchester Historical Society, you really must plan to see all the exhibits. Next open day is June 20th.
