Pilgrim Church InteriorDorchester Illustration of the Week

Here we have a photograph from 1903 of the interior of Pilgrim Church in Upham's Corner, published in Services of Dedication & Commemoration.

"On the evening of November 2, 1862, during the troubled days of the Civic War, sixteen persons met at the home of the Rev. Edmund Squire in Dorchester and united themselves together into what they described as 'an unsectarian Church of Jesus Christ.' This humble beginning has grown into what we now know as Pilgrim Church." - Pilgrim Church Website

"The [physical] foundations of a new church were begun in November, 1888, at 540 Columbia Road, but following Rev. Ballantine's resignation, there was a delay in the construction until Rev. Allbright began his pastorate. Finished in 1892 to a design by Stephen Earle, the Pilgrim Church is in the Romanesque Revival style."
- Dorchester Historical Society

The Illustration of the Day is sent out via email by Earl Taylor of the Dorchester Historical Society. If you would like to get these daily images, please visit this site and join the group. Questions? Call 781-272-6700.
