Dorchester Flashback
Illustration of the WeekDorchester Illustration of the Week

This week's illustration is a photo of the Gallivan Boulevard drive-in movie theater.

"The drive-in was at 775 Gallivan Boulevard from the 50's, 60's and 70's.  In the 80's it was a flea market. The drive-in, as well as  the dump next door, were capped and filled with Big Dig dirt over a couple of years.  It was opened as the John Paul II Park in 2001.  It was always great driving along the expressway at night seeing the drive-in movie (even though there was no sound from there)."

The Illustration of the Day is sent out via email by Earl Taylor of the Dorchester Historical Society. If you would like to get these daily images, please visit this site and join the group. Questions? call 781-272-6700.

This increase in 'social capital' will result in a community that is safer, healthier and more vital. For more information click here.

The mission of DotWell is to work in collaboration with our founding health center partners - Codman Square Health Center and Dorchester House Multi-Service Center - to provide integrated clinical and community services that address health disparities, build social capital, and meet the complex needs of our communities.
