Dorchester Flashback
Illustration of the WeekDorchester Illustration of the Week
Today's illustration is a postcard of Daly Industrial School and Grounds by J.V. Hartman.

"The Daly Industrial School was located on Pope's Hill. Some time between 1898 and 1904 the Catholic Archdiocese took over the property formerly owned by the Spaulding family for a trade school for poor but respectable girls. In the map, Gustine Street is now called Daly Street. Train Street is on the right."

The Illustration of the Day is brought to us by the Dorchester Atheneum, if you would like to be added to the list, please contact Earl Taylor by email or call 781-272-6700.

SCI Dorchester Collects Cans, Carves Pumpkins
The SCI Dorchester Team participated in a number of festive events surrounding Halloween this past week. In partnership with the Melville Park, Ashmont Hill and Field's Corner communities, SCI Dorchester collect approximately 700 cans of food at the Annual Trick or Treat Canned Food Drive on Halloween this past Saturday. These cans will be donated to local food pantries at the Codman Square Tech Center and the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center.

In addition, SCI team members showed their festive spirits through the carving of pumpkins. These pumpkins here feature the logos of all our partner organizations: SCI, DotWell, Codman Square Health Center, and Dorchester House Multi-Service Center.

SCI Dorchester's mission is to strengthen the Dorchester community by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives. We envision a community where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of our community. This increase in 'social capital' will result in a community that is safer, healthier and more vital. For more information click here.

The mission of DotWell is to work in collaboration with our founding health center partners - Codman Square Health Center and Dorchester House Multi-Service Center - to provide integrated clinical and community services that address health disparities, build social capital, and meet the complex needs of our communities.
