Dorchester Illustration of the Week
Today's illustration is a photograph of the burned remains of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
"On June 15, 1887, the church building of St. Mary's Episcopal was
consumed by fire. St. Mary's acquired land on Cushing Avenue and
Stoughton Street for the construction of a new church in the English
Gothic style of the 15th century.
Today we see the burned hulk of the old building, and if you look closely you can see a man standing among the wreckage."
The Illustration of the Day is brought to us by the Dorchester Atheneum, if you would like to be added to the list, please contact Earl Taylor by email or call 781-272-6700. |
