Newport Harbor Nautical Museum Launches Sea of Adventure |
Sea of Adventure opens to the public on June 19, 2010 in the East Wing Gallery, appropriately positioned just five yards from the waterfront intersection where Newport Harbor meets the Pacific Ocean. The exhibition features three distinct areas that examine the past, present and future of nautical exploration.
Academy Studios artist works on the "Abundance Wall" | The Exploration in the Past Gallery visits the first flat-bottomed wood-burning sternwheeler river steamer to enter Newport Harbor, explores the regions struggle to sustain fish abundance, and looks back at Newport's popular culture throughout the ages.
ROV Submersible "Alvin" | The Exploration Today Gallery offers a simulated and submersion experiences through live ROV feeds from underwater archaeological sites, a replicated Transpacific yacht race, one of the world's greatest ocean races, and educational audio and visual sensations.
Three time United Skim Tour champion Paulo Prietto takes on the Wedge | The Next Exploration Gallery presents what the world's oceans can offer - an infinite source of extreme fun, total relaxation, spiritual insight, as well as a range of exciting careers. Iconic character profiles from the oceanic community and conservation activists will be featured. These vocational and interactive profiles function metaphorically as encouragement for the visitor to go explore and preserve the ocean. |
