In the late 1990's, Jackson Hospital was referred to Cirius by a national accounting firm.  The firm recommended Cirius software products as part of a solution to decrease billing problems and elevated A/R days.  Cirius products were used to move the gross A/R days from 65 to just 35 within a 24-month period.  By coupling some technical expertise with the billing supervisor's knowledge of claim processing requirements, Jackson Hospital soon began to decrease the number of claims manually touched by the billing staff.  The resulting increase in their claim resolution rate was immediate.  Reports (developed based on denial reasons from remits) lead to further modifications in the creation of regional payer specific editing. The result was a constant 35-36 days in receivables.  Prior to Medicare HMO's making their presence known in this market, it even got as low as 29 days.  Rick Mann, Director of Patient Accounting at Jackson Hospital states, "With this product we submitted clean claims with only 1% to 2% rejection rate at the payer level, around 88% resolution rate within 14 days for Blue Cross and approximately 86% with 21 days in receivables for Medicare and Medicaid."

In 2006, the facility made a decision to move to an inclusive HIS solution.  Rick said "It hurts to go from only touching 1 in 10 claims to touching 8 out of 10 to get the bills out the door.  You don't hear much about [Cirius] east of the Mississippi, but they are in many of the bigger market facilities such as Duke University Health System, WakeMed Hospitals, University of Virginia and Moses Cone Health System.  Given the success we have been able to attribute to Cirius, we can see why."  After a year of fighting with the inefficiencies of the HIS based product, Jackson Hospital's A/R days skyrocketed back into the 60 day receivable range.  Recently, the Business Office has been able to restate their case for Cirius software products by pointing out the huge difference in their cash flow and productivity.  Thankfully, Jackson Hospital is coming back home by integrating Cirius software into their new HIS system.
