Register Now for Love and Logic Classes

Love and Logic is a highly regarded national program that offers adults an effective way to communicate with children. Love and Logic techniques produce immediate results because the techniques are simple, practical, and easy to learn. The concepts behind Love and Logic focus on respect and dignity.

This very popular class gives parents an opportunity to feel more confident in their role as a parent. Parents learn skills applicable to children of all ages, including how to provide limits in a loving way and how to avoid anger, threats and lecturing while raising responsible children.

A Love and Logic class for parents of children in kindergarten through 8th grade begins on March 6th from 6-8pm, and runs once a week for six weeks, at Bridgeport Elementary School.  A pizza dinner and childcare are provided each session.

The course is free, but enrollment is limited, so please register soon!

To register please contact pbriley@umasd.org or request a registration form at any of our schools.

UMASD is pleased to offer Love and Logic training through a fully-funded national Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant.

High School One Book One School News

Everyone is reading at the high school!! Take a walk through our hallways and you'll see students, faculty, and support staff engrossed in The Hunger Games.

Upper Merion Area High School's One Book, One School program continues through the end of February.  This week featured student-led book discussions during lunches and a parent book talk facilitated by UM English teachers.

Information will be sent home soon for the UMAHS "Night at the Movies" where students can attend a private screening of the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games at the King of Prussia Stadium 16 on Monday, March 26th.  Students are answering daily trivia questions about the book, with correct answers placing students into a random drawing for free tickets to the movie.

The excitement continues as UMAHS  focuses on reading and building community through our One Book One School initiative!

Caley's Feed the Mind Book Campaign                                  Begins March 2nd

Caley Elementary School will be collecting new and gently used children's books during the month of March.  We encourage everyone to donate a book for children who do not have the opportunity to purchase books of their own.

The Caley team will deliver these books to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Reach Out and Read project. Reach Out and Read prepares America's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to "prescribe" books for families to read together.

Help "feed the mind" of children who are "starving" for books.  You can drop off books at Caley Elementary School. Our Feed the Mind Book box is in the main lobby.
