President's Message

Time flies when you're having fun; or as Kermit the Frog once said, "Time's fun when you're having flies."  Either way, it's been a hoot.

As I begin to close out the books and prepare for the transition into Danny's leadership, I have waxed reflective, recognizing the chapter's vast source of "personal" wealth.

Your membership and participation in our chapter activities means a lot to me, and getting to know each of you a little bit better is a memory I will cherish for a long time.

Each of you has played an important role in shaping our chapter's past and its future.  And I am very grateful for your contribution.

I had the opportunity to share some personal time with one member recently and we reflected on how our membership is very much like our lives; you get out of it what you put into it.  We discussed how important it is to work as a team for a common goal.  And we talked about celebrating "victories," regardless of how large or small those victories are.  I truly appreciated hearing the comments made and felt a sense of pride in this member's accomplishments, self-awareness and wisdom.

These are the types of associations and friendships I have gained over the past few years and they were developed because of my membership with FPRA and the DPPC Chapter.  I would also be remiss in not recognizing the tremendous professional partnerships which I have developed as a result of my membership.  I called upon several of you countless times, for counsel and you took my calls every time.  Thank you.

But we still have a few more weeks left.  I challenge each of you to step outside of your comfort zone and become as active as you can.  You'll be amazed at the surprises you'll discover when you do.

See you at conference,

Donna

Don't Miss Out on Your Chance to be Top Gun
Top Gun

Lackluster interest in this great fundraising opportunity threatens forcing organizers to postpone it if we don't have 20 people registered by Monday, July 18, folks!

Here's the low-down: DP/PC FPRA members and their bosses will compete July 22 for the FPRA Top Gun designation using the PCSO's "Active Shooter" Simulated Training Equipment.

The event runs 2-4 p.m. at the Polk County Sheriff's Office Burnham McCall Training facility at 2201 Old Bartow-Eagle Lake Rd. in Bartow. Cost is $6 per participant.

Participants will take part in a familiarization exercise and participate in actual law enforcement training simulations.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Polk Sheriff's Charities.

This even is in appreciation to our bosses for their support throughout the 2010-11 year.

RSVP to Donna Wood: dcwood@polksheriff.org by July 18.

Conference Baskets: Donations Needed

The annual conference is fast-approaching, and Danny Kushmer and Dee Crumbley  need our help.

This year's festivities include a fundraiser: FPRA University Class Reunion 2011, for the Florida Public Relations Education Foundation.

Our chapter has sponsored two baskets to be included in a silent auction. Danny and Dee seek donations of items to include in the baskets.

The baskets' themes are: Beach Boys (Danny) and Armchair Quarterback (Dee). Both baskets are in need of ideas and items!

Some ideas for the Beach Boys theme are: sunscreen, flip flops, island music, cooler, etc.

Armchair Quarterback ideas are: game foods, gift cards to restaurants like Beef O' Brady's or Gators Dockside.

These baskets also need big ticket items that will persuade people to bid on them. Beach Boys theme can have a weekend getaway or a surf board, and the Armchair Quarterback theme can include a television or universal remote.

If you have a contact for a donation for any of these themes, please contact them, so we can get things moving.
