Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a condition that afflicts millions of people. At Blue Hills Sports & Spine we have had very good success in treating this condition. This month's newsletter focuses on this condition and some simple things you can do to help it.

Lumbar Stenosis

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a condition of the spine that involves narrowing of the spinal canal. This narrowing can be from a variety of reasons and can cause of variety of symptoms. Researches have found that as many as 30% of people over the age of 60 have some narrowing, but not all these people have symptoms

 

 

The most common symptoms are pain and weakness in legs that generally increases with standing and walking and in most instances, is alleviated by sitting. As spinal stenosis progresses, it can cause people to significantly limit what they do in their lives. Spinal Stenosis

People that are experiencing symptoms of spinal stenosis usually have tightness in some specific muscles...hamstrings, hip flexors and throughout the trunk (low back and abdominals). In many instances, starting a simple stretching program can alleviate some of the symptoms associated with spinal stenosis. Before starting any exercise program, it is always a good idea to check with a medical profession to ensure that the program is safe for you.
