Technology and School Reform
July report says they are linked at the hip
The Nellie Mae Education Foundation in Quincy, along with the Educational Development Center (EDC) in Newton just released a study that looks at student-centered learning and the techniques for getting us there.
Student-centered learning provides a key set of principles and practices for ensuring students have the skills and knowledge needed for 21st century careers and focuses on current research on how people learn. The report found that "Technology (done right) provides an invaluable way to deliver more personalized learning in a cost effective way." But at the same time also noted that "Despite the ready availability of technology in schools and compelling reasons to use it to enhance teaching and learning, research indicates that it is not widely integrated into classrooms." Along with the analysis, the report also includes in-depth case studies on programs that DO work and presents principles learned from them. |
