The 50,000 question game |
|
|

|
by Jennifer Fretz
It's a daily thing in our house. I call it the 50,000 question game. It starts around 7:30 am and ends around 8 pm-when our 3-year-old goes to bed. We hear the pitter patter of little feet coming into our bedroom and then it begins: "Can I put my princess dress on? Can I have breakfast? Are we going someplace special today? Can I watch a show? Can you help me with this? Why this? Why that?" Before you know it they all start running together. Between this and taking care of our infant son, by the end of the day I'm going nuts! My thoughts are jumbled, I'm in a fluster and most of the time I've gotten nothing marked off my list for the day. Being a mom of "littles" is hard, and, while I totally love my kids, I'm ashamed to admit that sometimes, and maybe even a lot of times, I'm just completely annoyed by it all. I would do just about anything to have 10 minutes of nothing - just 10 tiny minutes of calm and quiet with no one depending on me to make their day go well!
The truth, however, is that my daughter is only doing to me what God desires us to do with him - directing all of our why's, our concerns, our tears and our joys to Him. Asking Him for help and depending on Him to get us through the day. My three-year-old can't do it by herself, and in a broader picture neither can we. How much better would my life be if I chased after God the way my daughter chases after me?
Jenny lives with her husband, Andy, in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, and is mom to Gwen (3), Lewis (4 months) and Olivia Hope, who is two years old in heaven. Jenny works as an independent Team Leader with the Pampered Chef and is involved with her church and MOPS group. She also serves on the board of Women of Grace USA. |

Helping women grow
A few weeks ago we shared about P, a woman in West Africa who contacted us through our website looking for Christian resources to help her grow. Her request underscores the importance of a goal we have of offering downloadable Bible study resources. We would love to be able to provide them for free to women in her situation. Any amount can help toward this goal.

Review by Christy Carmean
How do we give thanks through cancer, economic downturns, and depression? Or even the normal occurrences...kids fighting, laundry piles, work that never ends. Responding to a challenge from a friend, Ann Voskamp takes us through these life experiences and shows us how she is learning to give thanks in One Thousand Gifts. Read the review. |
