Rooting girls in Christ
Greetings!

Planting seeds is no small thing! Jesus himself pointed to the smallest seed on earth, the mustard seed. What actions or services in your life do you consider too little or too small to really matter? Planting small seeds of truth in the life of young girls will bear fruit that you may never see, but it certainly matters to God!

The Power of One

What if only one girl attends our meetings for weeks on end? What if only one girl raises her hand to ask Jesus in to her life? What if you work with children rather than adults? So often the things we do seem trivial; the seeds we plant seem inconsequential.

But let's dream about the power of one. What if the seed you plant transforms a girl who then tells her whole family about Jesus? What if a college girl sitting on the floor of her dorm room contemplating suicide remembers that you told her God loves her?

Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of heaven being like a mustard seed, which when planted transforms from something inconsequential to a tree whose branches spread and offer shelter to many. Jesus set a great example of the importance of planting seeds, of cherishing the small seeds. Take hold of that, and believe that when you plant a seed in a young girl's heart, the work you do is no small thing!

Seeds sprouting in Ohio

Debbie Justus of Western Reserve Grace Church in Macedonia, Ohio, understands the idea of planting seeds in the lives of younger girls. As a middle-school teacher she has learned the importance of pouring into the lives of the next generation.  Debbie and her husband Doug, along with their two sons, Daniel and David, have attended Western Reserve Grace Church for ten years. A little over a year and a half ago Debbie joined the staff as the Director of Children's Ministries. Part of her role is to run a midweek program that focuses on discipleship. Approximately 50 third through fifth graders attend the program. Debbie believes highly in the importance of gender-specific ministries, thus the 50 children are separated based on gender. Debbie researched many programs and settled on using the new SMM curriculum due to its flexibility, biblical approach and sequence, the outreach focus, and hot topics. She has found that her girls really like the Hot Topics and the Outreach projects. Debbie and her girls have especially enjoyed taking cookies to local police and fire departments as well as visiting a local nursing home.

Do you really know God?

What happens when what we thought we believed about God clashes with the way our lives are turning out? That's when our theology makes all the difference, according to Carolyn Custis James. She points out that theology merely means "the knowledge of God," and therefore should not be intimidating. Every woman should be able to dig deep into God's Word and understand His heart in order to grapple with the troubling questions that assail us.

When Life and Beliefs Collide is a must-read for anyone working with girls, because it illuminates God's heart for women, and gives us some clear guidelines for what we should be instilling in our girls.

The work you do is no small thing! You never know what fruit one seed will bear.

Sincerely,
