Board Member UpdatesRobin Fisher, CMKBD - Chapter RepresentativeOn January 13th I will be attending a national Chapter Rep meeting in Tampa, FL. As your Chapter Rep, I attend two of these meetings per year - one in person and one by phone. Our main goal is to bring concerns from our membership to our national officers and learn more about what other chapters are doing. I'll let you know what I learn!
Our chapter was the 2011 Region 9 winner of the NKBA "Best Membership Meeting" with our entry from our event in August at the Gordon House. We were awarded $500 and have been put in the running with the rest of the Regional Winners for a $1,000 prize. The results will be announced in April at KBIS 2012, so keep your fingers crossed!
Spencer Hinkle, CKD - VP Professional Development GLAD TO BE HERE! Sandy Hayes, CMKBD and I are co-chairing the Columbia River Chapter's Professional Development Board position for 2012-2014. I oversee the NKBA Accredited Design/Build Remodeling program at Portland Community College (and you all know Master Kitchen and Bath Designer Sandy Hayes!). I am excited to be involved with leadership in our local NKBA chapter, and Professional Development is a perfect fit for me. Sandy and I have two major goals- first, to put together Study Groups that are as successful as those managed by our predecessor, Chelly Wentworth. Chelly did an amazing job and left us great records as well as valuable words of wisdom. We hope to assemble a formidable group of NKBA Certified instructors for the study groups, so if you are interested in teaching please contact me at hinkle96@gmail.com . Our second goal is to partner with PCC's Building Construction and Interior Design Programs to offer more CEU opportunities for our members. Because it is difficult to keep up with our changing industry, classes dealing with aging in place, building science, management and sustainable design, to mention a few, are valuable resources for our members." If you are planning to take the AKBD, CKD or CBD exam, join our study group for a focused review of the NKBA body of knowledge. Contact me at hinkle96@gmail.com for details. Glenda McAdam - VP Membership
RAPHAEL HOUSE RESULTS Thank you to all who participated in the fund raiser for Raphael House at our December meeting. We had over 60 items donated for raffle prizes which allowed us to, in turn, donate $1,540.00 to Raphael House. Thanks also to our members who provided household items and to Susan Grady who was kind enough to deliver everything to the House. THANK YOU! I also just wanted to thank everyone for your attendance at the NKBA meetings during the past two years that I've served as VP Programs. It's always challenging to present programs which meet the needs of the entire membership and I hope you enjoyed what we created. I really appreciated the support I received from the Board and hope for continued growth as I pass the torch to Kate Melton, your new VP Programs for 2012-2014! Kirstin Havnaer, AKBD - VP Technology & Communications Happy New Year everyone! Just a couple things to bring to your attention. NEW MEETING REGISTRATION POLICY First, we've updated our meeting registration process and will now require everyone to pre-register online whether paying by check or by credit card. This will simplify the process on our end in performing monthly bank reconciliations and will give us a quicker headcounts for our meeting hosts. It's all about efficiency, baby.
MEMBERSHIP SURVEY Second, be on the lookout for our electronic membership survey sometime in January. Just as we did in 2010, we'd like to hear from all of you about what's working and not working in terms of your membership in NKBA. We promise that it will be a short survey in hopes that we'll capture answers from as many of you as possible. Thanks in advance for your participation.
