Greetings! |
We hope everyone is enjoying the holidays here on St Croix with all of the festivities, parades and parties - it really is the season to be jolly!
Just in time for the season, we completed the renovation of The Inn at Sugar Mill where we have added 6 new doggie suites in the renovated Sugar Mill. We'll be hosting tours on Monday night Dec 19 from 5-7pm at our Holiday Open House. You can read more about the Inn at Sugar Mill below.
With the hustle and bustle of the holidays also comes some preventable hazards to your pets. Here are a few tips to keep them safe:
- Chocolate is sweet, but not for your pets. Both chocolate and coffee are toxic to pets. Take care not to leave these enticing treats where your dogs and cats can get into them.
- Toss the bones. Turkey and chicken bones are not something to share with your dogs and cats, as much as they love them. These small bones can splinter when being chewed causing serious problems to the esophagus and intestinal tract.
- Share in moderation. It is OK to share a little of your feast with your pets. Offer them small bits of cooked meat and vegetables. Avoid onions, grapes and of course chocolate.
- Thanks for the new climbing tree and toys! Cats and kittens, in particular, can be attracted to low hanging Christmas ornaments on your tree - avoid hanging breakable ornaments towards the bottom of your tree. Be sure your tree is in a stable stand in case kitty tries to climb and be sure to use a squirt bottle with water to reprimand your cat if it tries to climb. Avoid hanging tinsel on the bottom of the tree, cats love to nibble and it can cause digestive problems.
- Toxic Plants. Holly, Mistletoe and Poinsettias are toxic to dogs and cats who like to nibble plants. Be sure to place ornamental plants like these out of reach of your pets.
