"I feel a certain pride toward MBA.  I feel it is a school that really develops a child's character.  Compared to other schools I have seen, MBA seems so personal and because of the boarding school experience, it is like a family.  I feel very attached to MBA and being at MBA makes me feel like part of a kind of special 'club', a club connected with God that has many members that all have that same feeling

Dear MBA Family,

Perhaps like me, you've stumbled across one of those TV shows on hoarding, where people accumulate and store large quantities of nonessential things.  It is mind-boggling to see rooms filled with junk from floor-to-ceiling with (maybe) a little pathway of travel.  While most of us are nowhere near that level, we probably have accumulated items or boxes of "stuff" that we haven't used in years.  Within the next 2 weeks, my wife and I will be moving to another house on campus--up on the hill.  After 14 years of living in the same house, I welcome the opportunity to condense, consolidate and eliminate possessions.  In 2009 the New York Times did an article on storage units in America.  It noted that Americans now use over 2.3 billion square feet in self-storage space.  Fifty percent of [self-storage] renters are now simply storing what won't fit in their homes - even though the size of the average American house had almost too much stuffdoubled in the previous 50 years, to 2,300 square feet.  This should be a wake up call to Christians everywhere to examine our lives and store up our treasures in Heaven, not in earthly possessions.
MBA Happenings
School is back in session this week after Thanksgiving.  I am curious about something.  Are you still reading this newsletter?  If so, please email me (reply to this email) your response to this question we discussed in staff meeting on Monday night:  "Would you like to see MBA adjust our calendar to take a full week vacation at Thanksgiving in 2011?"  I'll share the results next week.

On Tuesday night, the ASB kicked off the Holiday season with our traditional Christmas Tree lighting on campus.  It was a festive time of music, cookies and hot chocolate.  Cole Hayton '11 really enjoyed "the coconut cookies."  Now the Christmas tree and surrounding lights will brighten campus each nigh
t until Christmas.  Thank you Mr. Dunn and helpers for all the time you spent doing a great job of decorating the tree.
girls bball
Our boys and girls varsity Basketball teams are attending a tournament at Pacific Union College for the next several days.  If they continue to advance in the winners bracket, the top four teams will be playing on Saturday night.  Go MIGHTY CYPRESS!

On Sunday, one of our biggest social events of the year takes place--the ASB Christmas Banquet.  Students will begin the evening at 6:00pm at the girls dorm and go with their dates to the Cafeteria.  Following a feast catered by Lisa Lara and her cafeteria crew, the students will end the evening with a movie in Baker Chapel.  All day students are included and encouraged to attend this special event.
Toy and Food Drive

We are collecting toys and non-perishable food items to share with needy and homeless people in our community.  I've heard through the grapevine that a number of teachers are giving extra credit to students who bring items (hint hint).  Collection boxes are located outside the campus ministries office in the Administration building (Grunke Hall).  We need the items by December 9th.

Semester Exams and Financial Clearance

exam smallAll students need to have financial clearance before taking their semester exams (Dec. 14-16).  Students who do not have a test permit WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THEIR exams.  Please contact our business manager, Mayra Thompson (financial@montereybayacademy) to make a payment or get your child's account cleared so they will have no delay in getting a test permit.  You may also make on-line payments.  Please help us pay our bills by paying your tuition in a timely fashion.  Thank you.

Upcoming Vacation Schedules

Christmas vacation will begin on Thursday, December 16 at 12:25pm.  Classes will resume on Monday, January 3.  Please note that Semester Exams will take place December 14 to 16.  Do not make travel arrangements for your child before 3:00pm on December 16.  Your child can not miss their final semester exams.  There is a $25 per test--early examination fee if absence has been pre-approved by Ad. committee.  Any such requests must be made in writing no later than Monday, Dec. 6.  Please try to make travel plans early and book tickets ahead for future home leaves and Spring Break.

Quote of the day: "Remember, if Christmas isn't found in your heart, you won't find it under a tree." ~ Charlotte Carpenter.
