THE TRUTH IS...

"My conversion to Christ at MBA set my life in a direction that cannot be described in words, because it has been an experience.  I could never repay the valuable training and life preparation I received at MBA."

Jose Rojas, Class of 1979

Director, Volunteer Ministries, North American Division of SDA

"I feel a certain pride toward MBA.  I feel it is a school that really develops a child's character.  Compared to other schools I have seen, MBA seems so personal and because of the boarding school experience, it is like a family.  I feel very attached to MBA and being at MBA makes me feel like part of a kind of special 'club', a club connected with God that has many members that all have that same feeling
."

Danica Betts, Class of 2011

Associated Student Body (A.S.B.) Executive Vice President 2010-2011

"I am indebted to the teachers and leaders that I now realize were making great sacrifices to work at MBA.  The education, discipline, and life-long friendships from my years at MBA are invaluable assets that will live with me forever
."

Scott Nelson, M.D., Class of 1988

Medical Director, CURE International, Haiti and Santo Domingo

Dear MBA Family,

In his book "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff......and it's all small stuff", Richard Carlson talks about multi-tasking.  In the chapter titled "Do One Thing at a Time" he suggests that when we try to do too many things at once, we become less focused and effective.  I've tried his suggestion to block out periods of time where I commit to only doing one task at a time.  I find it refreshing to be able to focus on a single task and complete it.  I'm reminded of the power of a magnifying glass to start a fire when it directs the sun's rays.
MBA Happenings
Congratulations to MBA English teacher, Jason Mustard and his family!  Mia Ling Mustard (pronounced Mee-uh) weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and was born on Thursday morning, October 14.  We hope to see little Mia joining her big brother Timothy and Mom, Jo, soon around campus.

This promises to be one of the quieter week-ends on campus this month.  Tonight, the Men of McQuaide (formerly known as Boys' Club) will be presenting an outdoor vespers program at 7:30.  Tomorrow, the Oceanaires under the direction of Mr. Kristian Leukert will be touring to nearby Hollister SDA Church for the worship service and potluck lunch.  Pastor Jeff Deming will be speaking at the MBA Church with a potluck lunch following the service in the Deming yard.  Tomorrow night at 8:00pm, the MBA Staff Talent Show in Baker Chapel promises to be very entertaining.  You never know exactly what hidden talents will emerge!

Sunday morning there is a TOEFL test and the Freshmen class of 2014 will have a class outing to the Monterey area from 12:00noon to 7:00pm.
MBA Phone System Problems
Unfortunately, the server for the MBA voice mail system failed on Friday, Oct. 8.  Temporarily, all incoming calls are being routed to the business office during the week, and the Girls dorm during the week-end.  We hope the repaired system will be up and running next week sometime.  We apologize for any inconvenience.
Looking Ahead
We've gotten the numbers, and approx. 300 participants from around the Central California Conference will be attending the Youth Prayer Conference at MBA next week-end (Oct. 21-23).  This is in addition to the more than 50 participants attending from MBA.  The CCC Youth Evangelism Team thinks this may be the largest number of participants ever.  There is no charge for students who want to attend.

Parent week-end and Senior Recognition is coming the following week-end, Oct. 29-31.  On Friday night and Sabbath morning, the Senior Class will be recognized and challenged as student leaders.  The rest of the week-end will include events designed for you the parents to meet the MBA staff and attend a mini-day of school with your child on Sunday.  There will be a required SUNDAY SCHOOL for our students on that day which will begin at 8:00am.  Brunch will be provided for everyone from 10:15 to 11:15am.  Classes will end at 12:50 and there will be a special seminar for parents from 1:00 to 1:50pm entitled "21st Century Learners."  Parent-teacher conferences will conclude the day from 2:00-3:30.  Click here to see complete event details and register.
Meet the Staff
Pastor Jeff "PJ" Deming
PJ
Pastor Jeff Deming, or PJ as he is usually referred to, comes to MBA from Milo Academy in Oregon where he and his family lived for the past 3 years.  On May 26, PJ and his wife, Amy will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.  They have 3 children, Robert, Sabrina '11 and Tanner '14.  PJ is beginning his 19th year in youth ministry and his office is usually filled with students (might have something to do with the candy jar:).  He is full of energy and enthusiasm and can usually be found attending any school or church event or in the middle of a group of students.  There is a sign on the wall in his office that reads "Tell the kids I Love Them-God."  This is perhaps the best way to describe PJ and his heart for people of all ages-young and old alike.
Make it a great day.

All the best,
