Volunteers for Next Year

We Need You!

By now, the Normandale Elementary volunteer booklet should have may its way home. If not, you can check out the many wonderful volunteer opportunities available at Normandale next school year here. Whether you like to lead or follow, work independently or in a group, or work with the children or behind the scenes, there is something for you.

To confirm your spot for next year, simply email your volunteer interests to Julie Wohlford or put the form in the PTO Treasurer's box in the school office.

Mile Run for Grades 3-5

For parents interested in cheering on their children or running with them, please join us on the track next week (May 9-11). Please come to your child's PE class during their second day of PE within those days (if they have PE May 9 and May11, you'd come on May 11). Check in at the front office and then join us in the gym for a warmup and stretch beforehand or find us on the track about 5-10 minutes into class. If you're not able to make it, ensure your child gets adequate rest leading up to the mile run and ask how it went later that day.

French Story Time

We are looking forward to a great summer and another series of 'French Story Library 1Time' at the Edina Library. French Story Time is a great opportunity for Normandale children. When you come to French Story Time this summer, your child will have the chance to hear a story read in French by some of their favorite teachers, they can reconnect with friends from school, and become familiar with the French collections at the Edina Library-where new French titles arrive on a weekly basis! And, it is FREE thanks to all the wonderful teachers from our community who volunteer for this fun event.

We divide the children into two groups according to age. One reader for the younger children (kids going into K-3rd grade) and another reader for the older children (kids going into 4th-5th grade).

Dates are as follows: June 18th, June 25th, NO story time on July 2nd, July 9th, July 16th, Library 2July 23rd, July 30th.

Time: 4:00-4:30 Monday afternoons

Place: The Edina Library, 5820 Grandview Sq. Edina, MN 55436 (off of Vernon)

In Case You Missed It.....

Previously included La Liaison articles are repeated below in case you missed them.

A Note from Mme Lukaska

Thanks for partnering with us for the success of your children.  Here are some recent observations:

  1. Students need to dress warmly for the morning chill, enjoy the afternoon warm-up and take all of the same clothes they arrived in, home at the end of the day.
  2. Appropriate footwear makes everyone safe on the playground and in school.  Flip flops are wonderful for the beach, holidays and summer but not advised for school.
  3. What we say is how we're remembered.  I love how comfortable students are with me in the hallways, lunchroom and at dismissal but advise them to monitor their speech habits and patterns.  I hear some inappropriate remarks that flow carelessly from students who are not thinking about the reflection they are casting upon themselves.  Often less is more.
  4. I've been in the lunchroom and established a routine of open seating for grades 3-5 as long as a modicum of decorum is maintained.   Our aim is to address the poor-choice behavior of the few without impacting the whole.  Grade 2 will gradually move toward open seating.
  5. The participation of extraordinary teachers and generous committed parents makes Normandale a wonderful place to grow and learn!

Sincerely,

Madame Lukaska
