Classroom Basket Donations Due This Week!
Our school carnival is Saturday, May 5, from 4:30 p.m.--7:30 p.m. and many of us are working hard to make it the BEST carnival in the district.
For that to happen, we need your classroom basket donations.
There are two ways to donate: (1) Donate a new item that matches your child's classroom theme (no food items). (2) Or if you prefer, make a monetary donation (suggested amount is $10). Checks are to be made out to "Normandale PTO" and given to Karen or Brittany. There are boxes in each classroom for donated items.
Carnival raffle basket themes are:

Memory Messages

Seems like just yesterday that we sent our fifth graders off to their first day of kindergarten, and soon they will be leaving Normandale! To mark this upcoming milestone, please consider leaving memory messages and photographs in the carnival brochure. Proceeds from the brochure will benefit the French intern program, and the messages are a wonderful way for family and friends, near and far, to surprise our children and their teachers.
Here are some examples:
Annie, all the best at Valley View. Love M, D, S & K (1 line)
Sue, you are amazing and full of joy and surprise. (1 line)
Mme Smith, thank you for being such a great teacher.
I will always remember crafting with clay. Jane (2 lines)
Sam, congratulations on your six wonderful years at Normandale. We are so proud of you and look forward to all that is to come. Mom and Dad (2 lines)
To ensure that your messages and photographs appear in the brochure, please place your orders on or before April 23.
The costs are as follows:
- $10 for the first line of each message (about 52 characters, including spaces)
- $5 for each additional line of message (about 52 characters, including spaces)
- $10 for each photograph
To order, please do the following:
Email your messages and photos to Rebecca Walton.
- Photos can be any size (4 x 6 is preferred) but must have 300 dpi or more. Don't worry about the format: photographs can be cropped.
Pay for your memory messages in one of the following ways:
- Click here to use PayPal tp pay on line at the Normandale Carnival website.
- Send a check to Rebecca Walton, 5525 Warden Avenue, Edina, MN 55436.
If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca via email or phone 952-657-5198.

Mme Suglia's Class Celebrates National Poetry Month!

Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? Mme Suglia's homeroom class celebrated by presenting to their parents and other classes a marvelous poetry performance this month: ENFANCE, ESPOIR, ET AMITIÉ (Childhood, Hope and Friendship).
The performance featured creative and artistic poems written by Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Paul Eluard, René Philombe, and Jacques Prévert. The entire class played an important role in putting together this inspiring performance. From presenting, reciting and interpreting these poems to playing different instruments to creating impressive presentations on the computer to writing and translating, Mme Suglia's class connected these poems with their everyday learning in English Language Arts and Social Studies, while also discussing the overall core values of peace, friendship, and equity.
"Dream Variations "by Langston Hughes, "Will there really be a morning?" by Emily Dickinson, "Liberté" par Maurice Careme, or "L'homme qui te ressemble" by René Philombe are only some of the poems that resonated with the audience. Please contact Mme Suglia for more information on these poems or this artistic initiative.

A Note from Mme Lukaska

Dear Parents,
There are signs of blossoming growth everywhere. Spring Break has energized us and we're now in the sprint to the finish line of a productive year! Everyone is ready to navigate the variety of activities that cover the spectrum from MCA testing to the carnival. Life is rich with opportunity.
A couple of important items to keep in mind:
- Being on time and consistent attendance are prime indicators of academic success! This is the season to make sure your children have the best start to the day possible by being on time.
- Vacillating temperatures have resulted in a large collection of Lost & Found! Check it out regularly and ask your children to return home every day with all the items they brought to school!
- Your patience with the sudden change of routine in the LUNCH ROOM without sufficient advance communication is greatly appreciated. I will collaborate with the supervisors and we will reach a solution that provides the best opportunity for all to eat and be happy! Thank you all for your concern, emails and input.
- Many thanks for all your efforts that make ND a lively and productive learning environment. Everyone's contribution is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Madame Lukaska
