Edina Intern Experience
All of our students benefit from having French Interns in the classrooms, but it takes a lot of volunteers to make it possible! January is when we ask every Normandale family to find a way to help support the Edina Intern Experience for the coming school year. How can YOU help?
The French Interns play a key role at Normandale Elementary by providing a second French-speaking adult in the classroom. Their presence deepens the immersion experience, increases students' opportunities to hear conversations in the French language, helps teachers provide additional small-group instruction, and provides unique cultural exchange opportunities at school and at home.
You help make it happen! Please sign up now.

Garage Sale - Fundraiser for Haiti
Third Grade students are planning and hosting a "Garage Sale - Fundraiser" for their service learning project.
For all students and parents
Wednesday, February 15
During the school day
In the auditorium
Third Grade families are donating gently-used books, toys, and games that will be sold and all proceeds will be used to buy educational supplies for the community of Lougou, Haiti. These supplies and additional proceeds that come from this sale will be given to the organization COFHED which helps this community.

The parents of Cassie Avignon, our science paraprofessional and native Haitian, are cofounders of this organization and live in Lougou. They are working with the native Haitians of this community to provide tools and training for self-sufficiency. We are extremely fortunate to have Cassie among our staff who has shared with our Third Graders her firsthand experience of working and living in Lougou. This service learning project will encompass ALL of our content areas in third grade (French and English Language Arts, Math, Social Science, Art, and Technology). We are excited about this project and we are hoping to develop a long-lasting relationship with this French-speaking community!
If you would like to support this project, please consider allowing your child to purchase these items during the day of our sale OR by coming to purchase any items of interest yourself. All classes at Normandale, just as with the Scholastic Bookfair, will have the opportunity to come to the auditorium during the day to "shop" around. Most items will be priced at $2 or less.
