| Innisbrook Fundraiser Starts This Week! | |
Ready. Set. Sell!
Our first fundraiser of the year starts this week! You will be receiving materials in your student's backpack by Friday for our annual Innisbrook sale. This is our second-largest fundraiser of the year and helps us keep our amazing French Interns here at Normandale.
Innisbrook is featuring some great new items and well-known brands, so even if you're gift-wrapped out, you might find wonderful hostess gifts, holiday gifts, or even a little something for yourself. And, new parents, Innisbrook gift wrap is some of the finest-quality wrap available. It's heavy-duty, beautiful, and - even better - the majority of it is American-made and printed on recycled paper.
Your student will have from Friday, September 17th until Monday, October 11th to sell items. Every child who participates receives a prize.
All of the orders for this fundraiser will be placed online:
-
-
Click on the Parents EZ link and enter our school number: 101102.
-
Create or open your child's account and enter the items sold.
It's that simple! And, if you have long-distance friends and family, they can also participate. Innisbrook will provide you a customized link allowing them to shop on-line, credit the items to your child's prize tracker, and have the order shipped directly to them.

| Kids Council & SOS |
The PTO would like to gather ideas and suggestions to update and refine Kids Council and SOS for the coming year. If you have past experience with either of these groups and/or have new ideas to share, please contact Cyndi Johnson at marshalldjohnson@yahoo.com to be a part of the redesign committee.
Just what is Kids Council and SOS? Here is the description of the programs from years past: Kids' Council is a group of student representatives from grades 3 to 5. They support a variety of focus areas, such as school beautification, and they coordinate various school events, such as Spirit Week.
SOS (Serve Our School) is a group of students from grades 3 to 5 who serve the Normandale School Community during recess. They may be involved in a variety of projects like sorting/counting box tops, soup labels, and milk caps for the school's silent fundraisers, making posters, or assisting staff/parents with preparations for school-sponsored events.

| Art Adventure |
Art Adventure is an art appreciation program for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. This program gives children the opportunity to learn about original paintings, sculpture, textiles, and photographs from the collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This year's theme is "American Art Sampler."
This year, students in kindergarten through 2nd grade will automatically receive a 20 minute presentation during art class. Third through 5th grade students can sign up to meet during lunch/recess seven times a year, averaging once per month. The first rotation of artwork and presentations begins November 1, 2010.
Art Adventure presenters are parent volunteers! Many families signed up for Art Adventures during the Open House, and we would like to welcome any others who would like to join us. Art Adventure curriculum, photographs, training and demonstration materials are provided. No experience is necessary.
Required background sessions for volunteers will be held in the galleries at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. These sessions cover the historical background of the works of art in the series. Sessions will be held:

The Open House will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Presenters can look through the portfolios, ask questions, and find project ideas.
Evening training will be formal classroom training for first time presenters (and for those who want a refresher). A tour guide from the MIA and experienced parent presenter will share classroom tips on presenting. The evening training session will be held 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Art Adventure is generously funded by the Normandale PTO.
We do need volunteers to make this happen, so if you are interested, please contact Alessandra Orthey at aorthey@comcast.net or at 952-922-8761 for registration information.
