Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney Phil apparently saw his shadow this morning, predicting six more weeks of winter. The little guy might have something different to say if he could see the sunny weather forecast for Northwestern Washington this weekend.

Former Point Roberts port director dies at 68

James (Jim) Hutchins, 68, a former Point Roberts resident and port director, passed away suddenly January 11, 2012. He suffered a stroke while visiting family in California.

Hutchins worked for 34 years as a Point Roberts immigration officer. The last few years before his retirement, he served as supervisor at the Peace Arch Point of Entry in Blaine.
February 14 election ballots mailed out last week

The Whatcom County Auditor has mailed ballots for the February 14 election and they are expected to be in all registered voters' mail boxes by the end of this week.
