Dear Parents,

Just a quick end-of-week note to say thank-you for participating in our Parent Forum for Strategic Planning Monday night. We had about fifty parents and committee members come together for an evening of 'thinking big" about our district's future. Notes from the forum will be posted on our website soon.

Our next event in the process of re-imagining our district's future is a special book discussion led by our governing board. See below for more details, and I hope to see you there.

And don't forget that next Thursday and Friday are non-school days for students. Teachers will be engaging in two days of professional development activities on a variety of topics, including mathematics curriculum, new Common Core State Standards, strategic plan, curriculum reviews in history and world language, and technology training (not a complete list).

Sincerely,
Eric Hartwig, Superintendent

Please Come to Our "Book Group"
And learn about The Global Achievement Gap; Why Even Our Best Schools Don't Teach the New Survival Skills Our Children Need -- And What We Can Do About It, by Tony Wagner.

On Monday, October 3rd , at 7 pm in Cano Hall, the Governing Board will hold a "study session" Special School Board Meeting for all parents, teachers, staff and community members to discuss the book The Global Achievement Gap, by Tony Wagner.  This meeting is part of the District's efforts to educate the community about 21st Century learning and to help us develop a Strategic Plan to meet the needs of our District students.

In The Global Achievement Gap, the author asserts that even the best schools in the United States need to improve, and they must teach the seven survival skills that children will need to be ready for college and career success in the 21st Century.

If this provocative assertion appeals to you, please RSVP by clicking here or paste the following address into your browser http://www.leadingeducation-llesd.org/book.html and join
us for a lively discussion that will help inform our Strategic Planning process.

The book is available at local bookstores and online at Amazon.

Thanks

And again, thank you for your continued support of our District schools.
