API Scores Released Today
|
Dear Parents and Friends of LLESD,
Those of you who are early risers and have the time to pore over the
paper probably noticed that last spring's STAR results have now been
converted into API "Growth" scores. Scores in the county and state are
going up, and this is great news.
And for our district? La Entrada stayed the same at 970 on the thousand-point scale; Las Lomitas
dropped 11 points to 949; and the district as a whole dropped 3 points
to 963.
This is discouraging news, right? No, absolutely not. First, a few
point's movement either way is not that significant, and second, being at
the very top makes it almost impossible to continue moving upward.
Statisticians call this pressure "regression to the mean," and we felt
it this year.
The important thing to remember is that even with the new scores out,
Las Lomitas School District is in the top one percent of all 545
elementary school districts in the state. That's worth crowing about. And our ranking (I know you're thinking this) is now #4 in the state,
with Hillsborough back at the #1 spot, followed by Los Altos and
Saratoga
But, to be honest, our schools aren't just about test scores, they're about learning that is fun and inspiring. As I have been popping into classrooms I have seen consistently great teaching and
engaged students, and as I meet with parents I hear tremendous
satisfaction with our schools. That's what it's all about, and I'm proud
to be part of such a successful team.
Yours,
Eric Hartwig Superintendent
