Mike Stoker at the GRC!

Business members gathered June 21 to hear candidate Mike Stoker speak, only a month after Chamber members and members of the public heard from Hannah Beth-Jackson.

Mike Stoker spoke about his support for the open primary system and Govt. Brown Pension reform.  Below he submitted a statement after the event detailing his position. A portion can be found below.

I have always been an advocate for the taxpayer and small business person, an advocate for property rights and an advocate for cutting wasteful governmental spending and consolidating governmental agencies and departments to realize the greatest efficiencies.

Until we undertake this restructuring, we will constantly have budget deficits with legislators like my opponent, where they balance the budget on the backs of cities, counties and schools.

Finally, there is the issue of pension reform. There will be no long-term fix to our financial ills without pension reform. As your state senator, I look forward to working with the Governor in a bi-partisan way to accomplish pension reform.

Board Announces Interim Director

 Dear Chamber members,

The Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is pleased to announce Zoe Taylor will be the interim President. She begins her duties on July 16, and will manage the Chamber's operations and staff until year end.

Zoe Taylor brings 28 years of Chamber management experience to the Santa Barbara Region. She served as a full time CEO for three chambers of commerce in Southern California before gaining valuable experience as the interim president for three additional chambers. Ms. Taylor most recently served as the interim president for the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce where she built strong programs to enhance business development. This year, Ms. Taylor was awarded the "Lifetime Member of the Western Association of Chamber Executives," and from 2006 to 2009 she was recognized by the Pacific Coast Business Times as one of their "Top Fifty Women  Business Leaders."

I am delighted to welcome Ms. Taylor to the Santa Barbara Chamber team. The Board and staff are looking forward to benefitting from her experienced leadership for the next 6 months as we develop a strategic plan for the future. During her extensive Chamber leadership experiences, Ms. Taylor has demonstrated success in identifying and supporting the needs of membership, building strong relationships with local government, and creating effective events and promotions. In addition to managing the operations of the Santa Barbara Chamber, she will be responsible for the development of new and innovative projects to strengthen the Chamber and support this regions business community.

Recruitment for the regular full time President and CEO will begin this summer. As part of that process, the Chamber Board of Directors will be seeking input from stakeholders in our business community. The Board needs and values your input about how the Santa Barbara Regional Chamber of Commerce can continue to be your most important advocate for business. We will be surveying our membership and conducting focus groups.  And of course, you are always invited to drop into our Chamber offices and visit with Zoe.  We are encouraged by the level of interest we have already experienced and look forward to including you in the discussion.

Plans are to have a new leader in place by the end of the year. However, the Board of Directors is committed to take whatever time is necessary to ensure the best leader is chosen to serve this Region's business community.

As always, the Chamber continues to be dedicated to promoting business in Santa Barbara. We look forward to bringing you more opportunities, events and programs, keeping the needs and interests of local Santa Barbara businesses our top priority.

Thank you for your continued support of your Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce. Together, we can make a difference!

Eco-Clean
Going Green Can Be Easier Than You Think

Idolina knew something was wrong when she started to see white spots appear on arms, followed by skin reactions on her body. As one of the four members of the family run maid clean business, she's been using an array of chemicals to help keep houses fresh and clean.

But two years ago, the family decided to make a switch. Changing the name to "Eco Clean SB Maid and Janitorial Service" the now 14 year old business has decided to embrace the concept of cleaning while helping the enviroment. And Idolina has reported no more skin reactions.

The mission at Eco Clean SB is to provide our customer with high quality service and protecting the environment with natural and ecofriendly cleaning products. By avoiding the use of chemical cleaning products we can protect the health of our clients, health of our planet and our own health.

The products they use are the same eco-friendly products used by NASA, hospitals and hotels, Idolina said.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, choosing less hazardous products that have positive environmental attributes and taking steps to reduce exposure can minimize harmful impacts to custodial workers and building occupants, improve indoor air quality, and reduce water and ambient air pollution.

To help promote their business and a more friendly eco-lifestyle, the company is launching some new promotions.
