"It's just a box of rain I don't know who put it there. Believe it if you need it or leave it if you
dare. But it's just a box of rain or a ribbon for your hair Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there." The Grateful Dead 1973, Santa Barbara
Everyman changes the world Dreaming of the ocean And the morning sun And that one perfect shot Soaring over the earth And it's enough The dreaming and world beating the endless palimpsest of discoveries and interpretations To imagine .....how and then .... do it For everyman Is the one.......Who changed the world

I am writing to update all about the activities of the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce, and to give you a sense of how you can be involved!
As many of you know, in mid-May the Board of Directors accepted Steve Cushman's request to retire.
Steve served the business community as the President and CEO of the Chamber for 24 years and was the longest-serving leader in the Chamber's history. We wish him well, and embrace the great opportunity the leadership change brings to the organization.
Our plan for moving forward includes you, so please give us your thoughts, ideas, and challenges!
The board formed a transition team that has been working to address the leadership needs of the chamber and create a plan. We are thrilled about the opportunities that are ahead for the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce, and know we need feedback from members, potential members and community partners. We value any feedback you wish to provide on changes you would like to see, things you think worked well, and where you would like to see the chamber's focus in the future. We are currently establishing ways to receive your input.
While the board of directors works with our members, community partners and community leaders to craft a vision for our future, we will hire an interim professional with proven chamber of commerce leadership, to lead the chamber for no more than 6 months. Requests for proposals have been sent to more than a dozen people with proven experience. We hope to have the Interim President in place by early July.
Recruitment for the regular full time President and CEO will begin this summer. We are planning to have a new leader in place by the end of the year however we will take as much time as necessary to find the person with the best skills for this Region's business community. Again, none of this will be possible without your input. Please watch for opportunities this summer to participate in the discussion.
Business Advocacy and Networking
Business advocacy and networking continue at the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce. There are several upcoming opportunities for you to participate in to bring awareness of your business to the greater community and to network with potential customers.
June 13 from 5:30-7:00, the enthusiastic Ambassadors will host their annual mixer at the new Synergy Center at 1 Calle Cesear Chavez. We look forward to seeing you there.
On July 26, the annual Trade Show will be held at the Cabrillo Arts Pavilion. If you have not already contacted the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce to reserve your space, please do that today!
And finally, one note of congratulations on a recent event. At the end of last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Senator Dianne Feinstein for a business issues discussion. She was very impressed with the members who were able to attend, and impressed by the community where we live and do business. The event was a huge success. We had had terrific press coverage and plenty of positive feedback from the community and our membership. Thanks to all of you who were able to be present and support the event. We made a wonderful showing and left a very positive impression with our Senator and our community.
In closing I want to make sure each of you understand what a valuable asset you and your business are to this chamber of commerce and to this community. The Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce works for you - that is our most important job.
It's your turn to be a part of building the organization for the next 100 years. We want your help. We want to hear from you! The Board will be seeking guidance from members as well as those of you who are not part of the Chamber membership. What is the Chamber doing well? What should we do more of, less of? What should we do differently or start doing to improve business in Santa Barbara? So when we call, we hope you will answer and engage in dialogue. Together we will build a Chamber that will sustain our business community for the 21st Century.
We value our ongoing partnership. We look forward to bringing you more opportunities, events and programs to stimulate the conversation to keep the interests of business in Santa Barbara and quality of life here for our employees a top priority.

| Dianne Feinstein speaks to 100 business leaders of Santa Barbara | | |
By Dana Olsen
For the United States to truly recover from the Great Recession, the federal government and its state counterparts need to be creative with tax reform and budget proposals to jumpstart the economy.
That was the view of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who spoke at a luncheon hosted by the Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce on May 30. "The important thing is that in times of toil and trouble, the government needs to come up with constructive solutions," Feinstein said at the luncheon, which was held at the Canary Hotel in downtown Santa Barbara.

| Hannah Beth-Jackson at our GRC! Mike Stoker next month. | | |
By Chloe Hunt
Around 18 business and community members attended the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce's early morning Government Relations Council meeting this month, where California's District 19's State Senate candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson spoke.
Jackson was previously a member of the California State Assembly, representing portions of Venture and Santa Barbara Counties for six years. Jackson explained her platforms to create jobs, promote education and protect the environment.
She then took questions from members, which ranged from business in Santa Barbara to the structure and effectiveness of various government agencies.
Next month the Chamber will host Mike Stoker, who will also be advancing for the state senate seat in the November ballot.
The Government Relations Council is primarily responsible for evaluating local legislation and government projects that may impact local businesses, and meets the third Thursday of every month from 7:30 am - 8:30am.
