Honor A Local Hero Killed In Afghanistan.
Master Chief Petty Officer Louis J. Langlais, a member of Navy Seal Team 6, was killed in action in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011. Navy Seal Team 6 was the special operations unit that killed Osama bin Laden. MSP Langlais grew up in Santa Barbara and attended Santa Barbara High School. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
The Chamber, Navy League, Red Cross, Davies and The Bank of Santa Barbara will produce an event on September 27 at 5 PM at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market at State and Cota Streets, to honor Officer Langlais. We are soliciting contributions to the Langlais family to help with their education. Donations can be made through the Navy League of Santa Barbara at a booth at the market. We hope to have a special Navy flyover in his honor.

Renaud's Patisserie and Bistro
By Stephanie Armstrong
What started as a way to come closer to family became an opportunity to make not only a home for themselves, but also a home for French cuisine in Santa Barbara. With the birth of their daughter in 2005, nationally acclaimed pastry chef Renaud Gonthier and his wife Nicole Gonthier made the decision to move their new family from Miami to Santa Barbara.
Looking for work for a high-level pastry job in Santa Barbara became a challenge for Renaud. With inspiration from Nicole, who has a degree in business, she said, why don't we "open our own bakery." In 2008 they opened their first location, Renaud's Patisserie and Bistro, in Loreto Plaza and in 2009 opened their second location in Arlington Plaza. Their newest addition has been the expansion in Gelson's market as bakery des Rêves. The literal translation is dream bakery and it was a "fulfillment of a dream," says Nicole.
Re naud's Patisserie and Bistro provides an atmosphere of familiarity for the community to come and enjoy a nice neighborhood café. They have a commitment to serving quality food and try to keep their ingredients locally sourced and, as much as they can, organic. The cuisine you will find in Renaud's Patisserie and Bistro is loosely based on the cuisine of the Provence region with items inspired from their personal favorites. Their food features delicious items for breakfast and lunch ranging from a European breakfast; your choice of a pastry and either coffee or tea, or traditional Pain Bagnat or Croque Monsieur for lunch to name a few. The prices are affordable and the quality that is offered keeps customers happily coming back for more.
The couple has reveled in the fact that "Santa Barbara has been a warm welcome from day one." The community has been a great support for their growth. The company started with ten employees and now has almost quadrupled in size. They've loved the continued support of the community and they "hope to serve Santa Barbara for many years to come."
