3 Tips to Control Preventative Maintenance Costs for Automatic Voltage Regulators in the Broadcast Industry

Automatic Voltage Regulators are workhorses at broadcast sites - yet they are often overlooked when it comes to preventative maintenance.
Located in remote locations, AVR's are tasked with cleaning up the often poor incoming line voltage, while maintaining a +/-1% output regulation.  These tight tolerances protect sensitive electronic equipment within the transmitter sites - prolonging their life.  This allow stations to stay "on air" with programming while keeping revenue streams "in the black."

Because they are so reliable, Staco AVRs can be forgotten amidst the other equipment.  But an Automatic Voltage Regulator that is over three years old can benefit from preventative maintenance.

AVRs contain both electrical and mechanical components which are subject to wear over time.  When that happens, the potential for reduced performance, loss of transmitter and disruption in power and business operations is increased.  And with unplanned costs for repairs, your already tight budget may be further stretched.  But regular preventative maintenance can optimize the performance, reliability and proper operation of your Staco AVR.

Scheduled service is always less expensive than emergency service.  Planning is the key to controlling PM costs.  To help potentially reduce PM costs consider the following three tips:
  • Service multiple pieces of equipment during the  same site visit
  • Contact other stations within the local market so that Staco can schedule an extended visit - that way all stations share in the savings.
  • Have Staco technicians review your UPS, power factor correction and harmonic mitigation installations or see if these items can benefit your station.
