The GCC News - Week 4
February 16, 2011

Greetings!

It is hard to believe that we are down to the final few days of the 2011 Green Cup Challenge.  What a great month it has been.  We have 121 schools on target to complete the Challenge.  These schools represent 29 different states and over 33 million square feet of building space. What a huge difference we can make when we work together.

Rather than this being the end, however, the GCC is only the beginning for many schools. Many conversations that begin as part of the GCC inspire more change throughout the year.  The conservation bug is contagious.

Best wishes in our final week,

Katy

Contact your Regional Coordinator or a National Coordinator listed below if you feel that you need some help with either the collection, calculation or reporting of your school's data. The Green Cup Challenge is about schools guiding schools to reduce their resource consumption.  Your success is our success!

Verifying the Top Reducing Schools.

We are asking schools with large increases or decreases in their energy use (>20%) to  verify their results.  Such large changes are rarely seen with behavior changes alone and are likely due to major initiatives by the school.  For example, a school with a large kWh reduction may have made extensive improvements over the past year such as replacing windows, replacing  HVAC equipment, or installing solar panels.

Top schools in each region and all schools with changes from baseline >20% should submit a brief explanation of their results.  Click here to see the on-line formWe will post the success stories of our top reducing Green Cup Challenge schools on our website.

It's a wonderful, creative way to spread the word about environmental concerns!

Excellent and creative minds abound in our next generation.

There are some very good videos, it has been an eye opener for me, my son practices going green at school, we will bring that into our day to day living :)

Very creative. I'm always impressed with what students can do!

Totally amazing! I'm very proud of my classmates. :)

The videos I voted for, in my opinion, were heart felt. The videos are excellent examples of our young people caring what happens to this wonderful earth. I am grateful for these young people who truly care and are willing to do something about it. Thank you, thank you.
