Wyoming PBS Foundation

KCWC-TV/WyomingPBS was established for the purpose of providing a public television service and distance learning to the citizens of Wyoming. Recognizing that technologies have essentially eliminated time and distance, and created a global village, the WyomingPBS network seeks to provide a television medium which recognizes the state's unique needs, and which informs, educates and enriches the lives of Wyoming citizens and helps them more fully understand and participate in local, national and global events that effect their lives. The station seeks to balance the differing needs of its citizens by providing a service that is open to public input with program offerings and services built around Wyoming's needs and providing communications opportunities which would otherwise be unavailable.

Lodging Tax up for Renewal.

Many travelers that visit have been attracted to our area by the marketing and advertising program created and managed by the Park County Travel Council (PCTC). While here, a significant number of visitors use the services of our visitor centers, which the PCTC also funds.

These marketing efforts would not be possible without Park County's 4% lodging tax. This small tax paid by tourists at every lodging property for rooms provides the funds that promote Cody and take care of our visitors once they are here. Over the past four years, more than $4 million has been collected and then used to promote tourism to Park County.

This November, the choice about whether or not to retain the lodging tax will be on the ballot. It is essential that Park County voters approve this tax if we are to stay competitive with other regional
and national destinations. This funding is also very important to the continued operations of the visitor centers in Powell, Meeteetse, and Cody.

Visitors have more choices than ever when it comes to spending their vacation dollars. Let's make sure we do everything we can to ensure they spend those dollars right here in Park County, Wyoming. We need to get the word out about the lodging tax and encourage its renewal, and we are still in need of contributions to do so. Please consider supporting this effort with a donation, help us educate voters about why retaining this funding source is so important!

A gift of $25, $50, or even $100 will go a long way toward making our communication and education effort successful. We appreciate your support! Make your check payable to Cody Country PAC and send it to:

Park County Candidate Forums Scheduled

The Park County Republican Party, in conjunction with the Park County Republican Women and Forward Cody, will host a series of candidate forums in August designed to educate county voters before the upcoming primary on Tuesday, August 21.

The first forum on Thursday, August 9, will feature the Republican  Park County Commissioner candidates.  Republican Wyoming House and Senate candidates will be the focus of a forum on Tuesday, August 14.  This event will include the candidates from house district 26, which primarily covers Big Horn County, because a portion of the district includes Park County.  The last event on Friday, August 17th, will spotlight the Cody Mayoral and City Council candidates.  Because the City of Cody races are non-partisan, the August 17th forum will include all candidates, regardless of their party.

All of the events will start at 6pm and will be held at the Coe Auditorium of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody.

Audience members may submit questions for the candidates at the door prior to the start of each forum, which is free and open to the public.  A moderator will control the proceedings by directing questions to each of the candidates, whose answers will be timed.  The sessions will be broadcast live by TCT West, which will also schedule them for future showings.

"We're delighted to organize these forums to give the voting public the opportunity to better assess the qualifications of each Republican candidate," said Geri Hockhalter, the president of the Park County Republican Party.  "Educated voters are essential to the success of our political system."

For more information please contact Geri Hockhalter of the Park County Republican Party at 899-2579; Hailey Vieira of the Park County Republican Women at 272-5264; or James Klessens of Forward Cody at 587-3136.
