Fairmont's Street Hockey Team Finishes 2nd In Tournament4th Grade Street Hockey Team 2012

This past Saturday, May 12th, the 4th Grade Street Hockey Team competed in the 5th Annual Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Shootout Hockey Tournament at Honda Center in Anaheim.  There were a total of 20 teams entered in the tournament this year and Fairmont Edgewood started off the day by beating Carden Hall 5-2.  The next two games Fairmont beat Crossroads 8-0, then Maxwell 13-1.  Fairmont would then be seated #2 in the Championship bracket behind 4 time Champions Friends Christian School.  Fairmont went on to beat Anderson elementary and Davis Magnet which put them into the championship game pitted against Friends Christian.  Fairmont was down 3-1 only to come back and tie it up in the final period putting the game into a 5 minute sudden death overtime.  Fairmont finished in 2nd place losing to Friends Christian 4-3 in overtime.   This year's team did extremely well and will be awarded their team trophy next week.

All donations are greatly appreciated, and we thank you for working together to help fight cancer.

Driving Safely

For safety reasons, we want to give you a couple of reminders about driving on or around the campus.
1) Please drive slowly in all the parking lots, church and school. There are young children here who do not always look before moving across a line of traffic. As adults, you need to use caution when driving around the school.
2) Please observe all posted traffic laws so as not to disrupt non-school traffic flow. We have had some complaints about parents not observing posted traffic signs.
3) Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the red zone in front of school. We use this as a our car loading area and unattended vehicles disrupt the traffic flow.

Thank you for keeping our children safe!

3rd Grade Explores San Diego

3rd to San Diego 2012Edgewood's third grade was beaming with excitement as they learned at the beginning of the year that they would be going on an all-day field trip to San Diego.  During the weeks prior to the field trip students began to bubble over with anticipation. Finally, at 7:30 in the morning on Thursday, May 10th, thirty-six third grade students and their parents gathered together at the Santa Ana Amtrak station wondering what the day would hold. For some, this was the first adventure on a train. For others, this was the first time in San Diego. As the train pulled away from the station, we settled into our seats and took in the beautiful scenery. After a two hour train ride, we arrived at the Downtown San Diego station. Leah and Elizabeth, our wonderful guides, directed us to our chartered buses that took us to Historic Old Towne San Diego. After a tour of an old Spanish villa and some of the original buildings, we took a look at a one-room school house; then it was time for lunch. We leisurely walked down to the Mexican Caf and partook in some authentic Mexican cuisine. Afterward parents and students had time to do a little shopping in the quaint shops and navigate through an old cemetery, church, and museums. Following our time in Old Towne our chartered buses met us on the street and our drivers navigated us through the busy thoroughfare of downtown to gorgeous Balboa Park.  From there we walked to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center which was a tantalizing collection of interactive exhibits and rides designed to provoke the imagination and teach scientific principles. The highlight of the Science Center was the IMAX movie called Born to Be Wild, where students walked away with a better appreciation for orphaned orangutans and elephants and the heart behind both women who spent their lives making them safe. Once finished exploring the exhibits we made our way back to the downtown train station. A little sad that the day was over, students however began to retell all the fun activities they had throughout the day.  As we boarded the train to make our way back to the OC, you could hear the students whisper to each other, "This was the best field trip ever!"
