Welcome Back
Edgewood would like to extend a warm "Welcome Back" to all of our students and parents! We hope you had a wonderful summer break. The new school year is off and running! Be sure to check out some pictures from the first day of school on Flickr.
Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts Winners
Last school year, the following pieces of art were chosen for the 2011 Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts exhibit: Imaginary Animal by Elliot Storey, JK; Stretching Cat by Dahlia Sarmiento, JK; Owl by Aimee Cho, JK; Self-Portrait by Daniel Shim, JK; Abstract Girl by Vivian Gray, JK, Young Girl by Josiah Gray, JK; The Girl by Robert Ni, 1st Grade; and Still-LIfe by Maia Coffey, 6th Grade. These pieces of art were displayed at the Festival of the Arts this summer. Of all those students chosen, Josiah Gray and Aimee Cho, both Junior Kindergarteners, received special award medals for their works of art. Congratulations to these promising young artists!
Traveling Talon
The Edgewood flat "Traveling Talon" Mascot was sent home with you in May so Talon could hang out with you during your summer vacation. Please email those Talon Adventure Pictures by attachment to Mrs. Powell at jpowell@fairmontschools.com. By the end of the month, we will have a Travling Talon Assembly and check out where Talon went.

Student Spotlight
 Nick Ida, 8th Grader
During the summer, Nick was selected as a semifinalist for the national Broadcom MASTERS science competition. He is very honored to have been selected as a semifinalist since there were about 6000 nominees nationwide.
Nick's science project entry also received First Place honors at the Orange County Science Fair and 4th place honors at the California State Science Fair.
