Student Spotlight
Alora Lindsay

Alora Lindsay, 2nd Grader

Alora Lindsey is a stellar second grader in Ms. Escutia's class this year. She has been at Edgewood since she was 4 years old in pre-school and has loved every year of it. Alora's favorite subject in school is library; she loves to read and now the close second is Math. In her classroom, she loves to help Ms. Escutia. She is a great student and classmate! She follows directions, has a positive attitude about learning, is friendly with all her classmates, and gives everything 110%. Alora is very busy outside of school, mostly with dance. Alora started dancing at age 3 and moved to South Coast Performing Arts about 3 years ago.  She has been competing for 2 years now and enjoys hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballet. Though she has studied musical theater, ballet and tap, her favorites continue to be jazz and, of course, hip hop. She and her team have done very well this year and will continue to do so in the future. Alora also loves to play soccer.  Don't let her sweet disposition fool you. If you have the soccer ball, watch out!  She doesn't let anyone stop her and she is quite the goal scorer.  Last year, her team made it to the semi finals! Besides dance and soccer, Alora also loves swimming, snow skiing, and hanging out with her friends and brothers. She is quite spoiled by her older brothers and likes to hang out with them and their friends. In the summers, she loves to go to Edgewood's summer camp and hang out with her friends and play in the sun.  She also enjoys visiting her cousins, aunts, uncles, and Grandma in Montana. She especially likes to play in the lake in the summer and to snow ski in the winter. Alora is a scholar, athlete, and a kid with great character. We are lucky to have her at Edgewood.

During our time together, we will tour the campus, meet with some faculty members and administrators, and have a Q & A time together.

Talon The Traveler
  Eagles A

Edgewood students!

In 1994, Dale Hubert, a 3rd Grade teacher in Canada, began the Flat Stanley Project. He invited other teachers to take part by hosting flat visitors and to encourage their students to write their own Flat Stanley journals.  (Flat Stanley Project)

The Edgewood flat "Traveling Talon" Mascot is being sent home so he can hang out with you during your summer vacation. Talon can hike a mountain, go on a cruise ship, meet Mickey Mouse at Disneyland, spend the night at grandma's house, water ski at the lake, surf at the beach, watch movies, go to birthday parties, and more. Take a picture of him everywhere you go!

During the first month of school, we will gather your pictures and have a Traveling Talon assembly.

You can share your "Traveling Talon" adventures and pictures in two ways:

1. You can post them on the Edgewood Facebook page.

2. You can send one or two of your favorite Traveling Talon pictures to Mrs. Powell's email address, jpowell@fairmontschools.com.

Edgewood Parking Lot Safety Reminders

Parking lot: Parking Lot Cone Safety

1) Parents need to enter the churchparking lot from Vanderlip ONLY. We want to have one way traffic in that parking lot. If parents ask another person (grandparent, friend etc) to pick/drop off their child, they need to inform that person of the procedure.

2) No running in the parking lots.

3) Children need to stay by their parents' side in the parking lot at all times.

4) Parents need to slow down in all the parking lots. Please no speeding.

5) No parking on the red curb.

Teacher Feature

Cynthia Wile, Second Grade Teachers' AideCynthia Wile

My name is Cynthia Wile, and I am the Teachers' Aide for second grade here at Edgewood. Some of my responsibilities here at Edgewood are the Star Board and the Jr. High News Board. I received my BA from San Diego State, Secondary Teaching Credential from UCLA, and my CLAD from USD. My work experience here
at Edgewood varies from many positions. I started as a Guest Teacher and soon became an Administrative Assistant, which led to a Campus Assistant. I am now a Teaching Assistant. Visiting with family and friends, eating at restaurants, and reading are some of my favorite things to do. I enjoy being at Edgewood and working with the students as well as the teachers and staff. Over the years, I have had several different positions at Fairmont. I have gained much and, hopefully, made positive contributions to the Edgewood Campus. It is a pleasure to come to "work" and be a part of the Fairmont family.
