FUN RUN DONATION INFORMATION

2011 Fun Run Family and

Corporate Sponsor Donation Form

This year's Fun Run will take place on Friday, May 20th, 2011.

The Edgewood Campus Parent Association (ECPA) is selling "Fun Run" T-Shirts as an added Fundraiser. The cost of each T-Shirt is $12, and the profit made from the T-Shirt sales will be used to purchase educational materials for the classrooms and to support the Teacher Appreciation efforts of the ECPA.

The steps to participating in the Fun Run Sponsorship are as follows:

1. The winning design (created by an Edgewood student and chosen by a Parent Association committee) will be on the front of the T-shirt.

2. The names of the Fun Run Sponsors (your company/family name) will be listed on the back of the T-shirt. Donation Form is attached.

Once the winning design is chosen by the end of March, the Fun Run T-shirts will be produced and go on sale soon after. This year's Fun Run monies will be made by:

1. Purchasing the Fun Run T-Shirt(s).

2. Donating money through the Family and Corporate Sponsor Donation.*

3. Pledging per lap ran by student.*

Thank you in advance for your support,

Parking lot: Parking Lot Cone Safety

1) Parents need to enter the churchparking lot from Vanderlip ONLY. We want to have one way traffic in that parking lot. If parents ask another person (grandparent, friend etc) to pick/drop off their child, they need to inform that person of the procedure.

2) Parents need to slow down in all the parking lots. Please no speeding.

3) No parking on the red curb.

4) No running in the parking lots.

5) Children need to stay by their parents' side in the parking lot at all times.

Kids Read Book Drive

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with the Kids READ! book drive. It went very well and we have collected just over 500 books. Your help and support will help hundreds of children and promote literacy throughout Orange County. For any other donations please contact Megan Mettler at kidsreadbookdrive@yahoo.com. Thanks again for all of your support.

Thank you VERY much Mr. Smiens!!

Student Spotlight

Sahar Khashayar, 5th GraderSahar Khashayar

Our student spotlight shines this week on a 5th grader, Sahar Khashayar. She hails from the city of Laguna Niguel, a few miles south of Edgewood. She has a sister, Parisa, who is a student in Mrs. Brown's first grade class.

Sahar has been a student at Edgewood since joining Mrs. Escutia's class in second grade. Sahar is a very dedicated student who excels in all her academic disciplines.  She is placed in both Advanced Math and Advanced Reading, studying Math with Mrs. White and Reading/Literature with Mr. Williamson. Sahar counts Math and Science as her two favorite subjects, she enjoys Mrs. White's challenging - yet hands on investigative Science class. Sahar has been, and currently is, a recipient of Edgewood Campus's Director's Honor Roll.

She has served Edgewood as a 4th grade representative to ASB. She counts the 5th grade trip to Catalina - CIMI as her favorite field trip. She especially enjoyed the CIMI daytrip where we kayaked to another part of the island and spent the day engaged in beach and water activities.
Outside of the classroom Sahara is active in extracurricular activities. Her favorite hobbies are playing the piano, reading, writing, and enjoying Wii. Playing the piano since the age of five, music is an important part of her life. One of her piano teachers is our own Miss Harper, with whom she spent a year studying. This school year, she took up studying Violin with Miss Tse. With the arts, and with the quiet and studious pursuits of reading and writing, Sahar finds time to feed the physical part of life with athletics. She has played soccer in Laguna Niguel for the past six years, and she has also enjoyed being on a swim team.

Sahar has a very ambitious dream for her career future. Because of her love of literature and writing, she aspires to be an author. Math and Science also ranking in high esteem has her setting her sights on being an astrophysicist. I can see her combining both pursuits into a lucrative and bright future. In a few years, look for a well published astrophysicist and remember, she is one of our very own from Edgewood.

As her teacher, I can attest to her drive, her ambition, and her academic talent. Sahar is a wonderful student, one that I am proud to teach. Observing her these past several months I can attest to the fact that when she has her mind set on a goal that she plans to achieve it.

Jonna Powell, Student Services DirectorJonna Powell

My name is Jonna Powell, and I have been working for Fairmont for 13 years. I started at the Mable Campus as a camp counselor in the summer of '98 and moved to the Edgewood Campus as Student Services Co-Supervisor in the fall of '00. Currently, I am the Student Services Activities Director, the Yearbook Advisor, the Summer Camp Director and the DSL Girls Volleyball and Basketball Coach. I truly love what I do, and Fairmont has become family to me.  In 2005, I met my husband here at Edgewood, Mr. Powell, and we have been married for 3 and a half years. We have a beautiful little boy, Jake and a little girl on the way, due in September. Family is really important to me, so spending time with them is a must. I am one of seven children, and I have always wanted to work with kids. I also love playing volleyball and softball, traveling to other countries, photography and seeing the latest movies. I graduated from Fullerton College with a degree in Child Development. In 2008, my DSL Volleyball team won 1st place as league champions. The following 2 years they took 2nd place. What I truly enjoy about Fairmont is keeping a smile on every student's face.

Kim Bradbury, First Grade Teacher's Aide & Student Services Kim Bradbury

My name is Kimberly Bradbury, and I work at the Edgewood Campus as a Teacher's Aide for Mrs. Brown's first grade class.  I also work in Extended Day and run study hall for the 6th through 8th graders.  I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Education at CSU, Long Beach and my teaching credential and Masters Degree at National University.  From 2008 to 2009, I was a Whatever It Takes teacher for 5th graders at Wilson Elementary School in Costa Mesa.  I was at Wilson Elementary School again last year as an Intervention Teacher.  I also home schooled a sixth grader at the end of last year.
I love to spend time with my family and friends.  During the summer, I love to go to Lake Havasu to go waterskiing and wakeboarding.  I also enjoy going to the movies, running, and going to the beach.  While at Edgewood, I have been very fortunate to meet many excellent families and staff.  I enjoy working in the classroom with the first graders and working after school with the junior high students.  I am very fortunate to be able to do many different things at Edgewood.
