CampfireTALKMarch 2011  -  Week 3

Greetings!

I've always said that since I moved to Austin, I had a few adjustments to make.  Once was when it rains here.  It never thunders, and you never see lightening!  In West Texas, where I grew up, these were commonplace with a "thunderstorm" and rain ... it was just accepted.  Well, this week, I've had a chance to have a "flashback" of West Texas!  When it rained this week, there was "THUNDER" and there was "LIGHTENING" in a BIG WAY!!

Call me weird, but I've always loved the weather.  My favorite time is when a storm is coming in.  I love to be up on a hill somewhere, and watch the thunder clouds roll in.  There's the wind in my face, as it gusts and then settles, bringing news of the forthcoming storm.  I guess it's a "Moses thing" to me ... standing up on a mountain (or a hill) and staring into the sky as the winds blow, and the thunder rolls.  I like that!  It makes me think of God, and of Moses, when he was on the mountain, spending time in the presence of The Creator of the Earth!!

Well, "thank God" for the rains!

Make me proud!

My wife and I took our family, and a friend, camping this past week.  We all had a simply wonderful time, too!  The nights were cool and breezy, allowing a fantastic atmosphere for the night life at a campsite!  My wife and I slept well, though my first night I was up most of the night.  I always am the first night of a campout.  I tend to sleep light, hearing all of the wonderful sounds of the night, delighting in the breezes that blow, and occasionally being disturbed by a raccoon trying to scarf up our food at the campsite!  But we had fun!

Our classes at St. Philips Methodist Church are coming to an end this next week, as we close up on the class "Let Me Introduce You to My Father" ... an 8-week discussion and presentation dealing with the relationship we have with God.

In our Bible Studies on Thursday evenings, the attendance slacked off during the Spring Break and surrounding season as folks were visiting with family and friends, traveling, and such.  But ... the classes continue.

Recently, I have received several emails from readers of this newsletter, telling me how it has impacted their lives, and of how much they appreciate and learn from these messages.  I just wanted to take a moment to say, "Thank You" for that!  It means a lot to hear from folks on how these affect others, and of the lives that are changed, simply because I take a little time to listen to God and put these together.  I appreciate you all!

On Thursday evenings, in our home, we are talking about "power tools" ... the things that GOD has given us to use in ministry and in our daily lives!  You really need to hear these.  But I do not plan to record them until we've got enough of a group to enable us to set up recording.  Until then, they are informal preaching and teaching sessions ... Bibles open, notebooks in-hand, and lessons to be learned!  Come and join us!

Before I go, I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You" to my Father God for the job I now enjoy.  It is nice to be able to take my family out to eat on a spur of the moment, and to be able to do things that we just couldn't do with money being so tight.  So, "Daddy", "THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH"!!

If you are in a spot where maybe you've lost your job, or you are just finding that money is short, ask God for wisdom in this.  One good source is the courses taught by Dave Ramsey. God has given him a lot of wisdom on spending, on budgets, and on "not" spending.  Some times you may just find that your standard of living outweighs your income.  In that case, adjustments need to be made.  After all, you really need to enjoy life, and not be spending all of your time working and worrying about bills.  You'd be surprise what pressures that you are putting on yourself that really are not necessary!  Ask your Father, and see what He has to say ...

Make me proud!
