Hitting The Mark!
by
pastor Rich

Being a man today's tough!  It is not easy, and with the unemployment rate the way it is, you have got to take some steps to ensure you can continue to make $$$.

Maybe I can give you some tips that will help you in the battles that you face, in this world of business that many are now saying is not what it once was!

Last weekend my family and I dropped in on a last minute viewing of a new movie that has just come out, "Courageous"!   The movie is a must-see for you men!  When you go, take your sons and your daughters with you ... this movie will impact them as well!  Your wife?  She'll be impacted by the changes in your life that result later, after you've all seen the movie!

In the days of "Leave It To Beaver", the Dad, in this case, Ward Cleaver, worked at the same job almost all of his life!  His company trusted him, and he worked well with his co-workers, ironing out problems along the way, without the help of an HR department.  He earned a regular salary, and worked his way up with promotions, and because of his hard work.  Today, things have changed.

In today's business world, it's more like a mafia.  The "company" never deals with you, when it comes to correction or improvement in performance.  They just call their "hit men", the HR Department, to do it for them.  You are either placed on some kind of performance plan document, or they just "cut you loose" and replace you!

Now, in case you do not know, "HR" stands for "hiring and release"!  No, seriously, it stands for "human resources".  You are no longer people, you are a resource, a tool, a replaceable non-personal asset.  And this mentality has now crept into our school systems as well!  We take our kids, and we put them on "performance plans"!  Seriously?  No child is going to take this very seriously, and it is NOT the way to deal with human beings!  People need instruction, guidance, advice, and sometimes they just need a listening ear, all of which there is no longer any room for in the working place.

Texas, where I live, is a "work at will" state.  Simply put, this means that an employer can fire you for no real reason at all, just like he would a contractor.  So why do we put such emphasis on "I have a real job" ... you can be "released" just like a contractor, with little or no warning!  Are you scared now?  Well my intent is not to scare you, but to inform you, so that you will consider your situation, and develop "alternate sources of income".  You see, today, you cannot survive if you do not diversify and develop for yourself, several sources of income!

In a world of "disposable" mentality, where the throw everything away that we don't want (including employees) we need to realize a cold hard fact:  Your "steady paycheck" is not real!  The money you receive on a monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly basis, comes in to your company just like it does to self-employed, independent businessman, in spurts!  They make money the same way a self-employed individual does, and some times the money is real good!  Other times it is not so good.  But your company saves its money, and puts it in the bank, so that when it comes time for that magical "regular paycheck", they will have that money available, to keep the illusion alive.

How do we men set up our own finances so that we are not just another casualty of this new system?  Diversification.  We need to diversify, and develop for ourselves several sources of income!  We also need to develop a savings plan and begin to invest our money, so that "we" are not one of those who blindly trust in the illusion of a "regular paycheck" to keep us afloat!

Did you know that most people, if they were laid off today, would be in almost immediate chaos?  From paycheck-to-paycheck, they are living, waiting for that next feeding to their bank account, so that they can continue?  They are barely making enough to make it, and there is no savings at all, being set aside for when times are less bountiful!  And their income is one source, and one "provider", so if this resource is cut-off, they are ruined!  This is a certain plan for failure and utter catastrophy!  Should you be one of those unfortunate ones that are greeted by their boss one day with those gut wrenching words, "We're gonna have to let you go.", your whole world will crash before you!  I've been there!  There is nothing like the sinking feeling when you know they are about to "dispose of you".

Next week we will be talking about some possible alternative sources of income, or some avenues to consider for "adding" resources to your income portfolio.  That word sounds so "rich" doesn't it, my "porfolio".  It's really nothing but a folder, a file, a "record" of your income and resources - that's it.  But using that word makes you sound important, organized, together!  Use it!  Learn it!  And discover ... "the mark"!

You cannot "Hit the mark" if you dont' know what the mark is?  Today, we have discussed the 1st part of "HITTING THE MARK", in addressing the stark reality that your income, your "job" is not that stable or permanent - not like you thought it was!  YOU are in a place where you can now act, without the stress of having to act later out of desperation.

Until next week, consider your income and your position.  Ask yourself if you are doing the best you can at your work.  Remember, they have their "hit men" (HR) should they decide that you are no longer needed.  As since they are your only source of income, you are their slave.  You do what they want, speak the way they want you to speak, etc. so that you don't lose your job.  Is that any way of a son or a daughter of God to live their life?  And what kind of a witness, an example is that?  Wouldn't you like to know that "if" you had to take a stand on something, you would be able to without them holding your job over your head to keep you there, in fear?  Wouldn't you like to know that your job is only "one of your sources" of income?

Let's talk next week!
In the meanwhile, read up:  Proverbs 6:6

Financial Partners in Our Ministry

The other day I had a friend call me and compliment me on the newsletter.  He also said he called because he wanted to become a partner with our ministry, and to not only pray for us, but he wants to begin to give regularly into the work that we are doing!

I cannot tell you how much that means to me, when someone says that they want to become a part of our ministry, to support us financially, and to pray for us in what we are doing!  That is to me, "priceless"!  Now you may give $100 bucks a month, or you may only be able to give $10 a paycheck, it all helps, and it is all a gift and an offering unto God and what He is doing, through us!

We pray for our partners!  We know that even giving a small amount on a monthly or bi-weekly basis is a challenge, and we appreciate that!

Are you interested?
We would like to hear from you!

We are set up for PayPal, where you can donate through your PayPal account, with your credit card, or by check.  On my giving, I utilize the service at our bank that automatically creates checks and sends them out for me.  It's great!  My gifts and payments automatically come out and a check is mailed to these folks, without me ever having to lift a finger!  These are many options for you to explore ... it's all up to you!

Now for my friends request, we will be putting into the newsletter, starting next month, a section with links to allow you to be able to 'partner up' with us by just clicking a link!  Look for it soon!

In the meanwhile, if God is speaking to you and you just can't wait until then, email us and we'll send you a link where you cna pay right there through email, using your PayPal, credit card, or bank card.  Or, if you'd prefer to send a check, simply mail it to the address below, and we'll send you a record of your giving.

about the Pastor
Pastor Rich

About me:
I'm a hopeless romantic! I write poetry, short stories, and songs. I love rainy and foggy days. (sorry, that's me) I like to take walks with my wife through nature, go camping with her in the outdoors, and take my Jeep and go places we really can't go in a normal car. I can't wait for us to get a motorcycle! We both love to ride!

I love to sit in the woods and listen to the raindrops after a rain as they slowly drip from the leaves, in the quiet of the woods.

My feelings run deep - really deep. My values are true, solid, black-and-white. My commitments are true, as well. I am a believer in "absolutes"! When I am your friend, there are no "grey areas" with me - you're my friend - period. That survives all attacks, all obstacles, and all that we may go through.

I'm not perfect, but my beliefs are solid, deep-rooted, and of honor and character. These are what keep me grounded, as a friend, and as a person ... and they're what bring me back when I stray or fall short. My wife is that way too. I guess that's why we are such a perfect match!

about Jane:
She's that sparkle in my eye, the twinkle in my smile, the dance in my step, the hop in my walk, and the object of my affections!

We go camping together, Jeeping together, traveling together, and we even work out together! When we go out in public together, I climb over 2 notches on the social scale just because I'm seen in public with her!

We like much of the same foods, so we cook together and compare recipes. We learn from one another. She's my pal, my friend, my lover, and my partner in life.  We even do Weight Watchers together!   We've been called that "Mad About You" couple you've seen on TV! When we minister together, it's obvious that we "belong"!

I believed God for Jane. She was a "special order", I assure you! He put things in her personality, her physique, and her walk ... all the things about her are things God knew that I wanted and needed!  She is His expression of love, to me!

If you are interested in following our ministry, and in being a partner with us, in your prayers and maybe even in your financial support, please consider signing up for our mailing list.   We're good soil! you f
