Florida Back to Work 2010
|
|
|
FloridaWorks is pleased to announce the Florida Back to Work Program. The State received $200 million to support this program throughout Florida. Our region submitted over 60 project proposals, which if approved will create over 650 jobs in Alachua and Bradford Counties. In anticipation of these jobs becoming available towards the end of February or into March, FloridaWorks is pre-screening jobseekers for eligibility. Details of the eligibility requirements and instructions on how to apply are available on the FloridaWorks website.

FloridaWorks will be hosting a Florida Back to Work Eligibility and Recruitment Event on Friday February 26th, from 8:30am to 5:00pm and Saturday February 27th from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the One-Stop Career Center: 4800 SW 13th Street, Gainesville, FL 32608.
All interested jobseekers can perform a self pre-screening for eligibility by clicking here for the FloridaWorks website.
If you plan to attend the Florida Back to Work Eligibility and Recruitment Event, please be sure to bring your completed eligibility packet and all necessary documentation with you on the day of the event.

FloridaWorks held their annual meeting on January 22, 2010. Special guest speakers included Wes L. Jurey, President & CEO, Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Arlington, Texas and Chair,
Texas Workforce Investment Council (Texas State Workforce Board) and Belinda Keiser, Keiser University, Vice Chancellor of Community Relations and Student
Advancement and Chair, Workforce Florida, Inc. (Florida State Workforce
Board).

The Agency for Workforce Innovation
AWI is Florida's lead state workforce agency and directly administers the state's Labor Market Statistics program, Unemployment Compensation, Early Learning and various workforce development programs. Click here for information.

Employ Florida Marketplace is Florida's state employment website. Job listings from across the state are listed here. Register on Employ Florida Marketplace to help you in your job search. Here is a step-by-step guide for job seekers to register online. www.employflorida.com is also where employers can post job openings as well. To fully register as a job seeker, click this link.
Creating Opportunities through Networking New and Existing Companies with our region's Talent (CONNECT)
CONNECT is a program offered by FloridaWorks and the
Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce for professional level job seekers with a
minimum of an Associates Degree or five years experience in an industry.
CONNECT meets weekly at 5:45pm to 7:30pm to provide an opportunity for job
seekers to network, gain knowledge of the current job market and receive an
orientation to the services offered by FloridaWorks. Once evaluated,
participants are offered one- on-one assistance for review and critique of
resumes, evaluation of transferable skills, assisted job searches through EFM,
training opportunities and other counseling services. In addition, there
are monthly mini-interviews with HR Managers from companies with open
positions.

The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce has four major focus areas: Chamber Services, the Council on Economic Outreach (CEO), the Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center (GTEC), and the FloridaWorks Business Services Team.
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the area's largest and most dynamic business network since 1924, has one simple mission: make it easier for members to do business everyday.
CEO's charge is to assist existing businesses through expansion, to help grow new companies in our community and to attract new opportunities to Alachua County.
The Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center (GTEC) is a community program providing early stage technology startup companies with tools, training and infrastructure to help them grow and develop into financially viable technology enterprises.
