US Homeland Security Grants Update
A Message from SYNERGY:
The US Department of Homeland Security's 2011 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) is scheduled to be announced today, allowing nonprofits the opportunity to apply for up to $75,000 for target hardening measures such as security hardware and related training. The JCRC-NY will provide a free webinar training detailing the specifics of the grant and the application process. The webinar will be held on *Monday, May 23, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm* and is accessible from any internet capable computer. Click here to RSVP and to receive login information.
The webinar will cover the basic provisions of the Investment Justification, the core component of the application, and provide New York-specific information at the end.

They are joined by Rakevet Divisional Director, Mike Hirsch, who works at this Schechter school, as one of the leaders on their trip to Israel..... In addition, the school will welcome incoming Rabbi-in-Residence Rabbi Josh Rabin, who was ordained today at JTS.

Shelanski, one of the highest-ranked officers in the U.S. Navy, brings the story forward for CTI members and guests. Admiral Shelanski, who commands eight ships, including the carrier, Harry. S. Truman, and has 6,500 troops serving under him, discusses how he has maintained his Jewish identity through such activities as dedicating a Holocaust Torah aboard one of his ships and participating in Israeli Independence Day. On Wednesday, May 11, 2011, Dr. Elissa Kaplan, lead educator for the PaRDeS Yaakov program, facilitated the workshop, Have Shabbat and Re-Soul: Learning from the Kishkes for the religious school faculty, led by Carol Zager, at the Temple Beth Shalom Religious School in Mahopac, NY.
Pictured here are Carol, Elissa and teachers evaluating three Shabbat School programs to get ideas for their emerging Shabbat School. Mazel tov to Carol Zager and the faculty for receiving a grant to enhance the Temple Beth Shalom Shabbat School next year!
This past weekend, May 13-15, Tamar Schwartz and Rabbi Savenor attended METNY USY Regional Convention. Mindy Liebman, METNY Youth Commission Chair, also attended along with Norman and Carole Korowitz. (see article, above)
On May 16, Norman Korowitz led a meeting of the METNY District and Advisory Councils.
On Tuesday, May 17, Rabbi Edelman attended a meeting of the Long Island Conservative Principals Council at the Woodbury Jewish Center.
