Mid-Winter Kallah & The World Wide Wrap

On February 4-6, Tamar Schwartz; Mindy Liebman, Youth Commission Chair; and Rabbi Charlie Savenor joined over 400 USYers and Kadimaniks at at the USY Mid-Winter Kallah at the Huntington Hilton.

One of the highlights was that the USYers participated in the annual FJMC (Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs) World Wide Wrap.

Yasher Koach to Arianne Shapiro of the H2I USY chapter on winning the Mid-Winter Kallah Survey iPod contest! We received surveys from over 30% of the youth. Keep on the lookout for a special report on the Kallah!

It will take place on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Israel Center of Conservative Judaism in Flushing, NY. The convention's theme, "Profiles in Chutzpah," will present "out of the box thinking" that leaders can utilize to enhance and inspire their kehillot, congregations. The registration fee for the conference is $18, which covers dinner, sessions and materials. The registration deadline is Tuesday, March 7th. [more info]

On Tuesday, February 15th, Rabbi Edelman and Senior District Vice Chair Alan Reid (far left) met with our newest congregation, Chavurat Emet, to present their affiliation certificate to Chair Milton Cohen, Spiritual Advisor Neal Spevack, and their board. On Wednesday, February 16th, Rabbi Savenor met with the board of Midway Jewish Center, including Rabbi Perry Rank, President Mark Gelfand, and Executive Director, Joel Podell (see photos, above).

The Rabbinical Assembly (RA), in cooperation with The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), is again offering a course for physicians this May, entitled "Brit Kodesh, A Sacred Covenant: A Conference on Brit Milah." Qualified physicians and health care practitioners who are clinically trained and highly experienced in medical circumcision, and who are practicing Conservative Jews, can apply with the recommendation of their rabbis and the approval of their local RA regions.
