Girls Inc. on the move
by Dawn Wiley, Outreach Coordinator
Girls all over south Sarasota County are participating in Girls Inc. programs while attending summer camps at nonprofits, parks and schools in Venice, North Port and Laurel.  Girls have been learning about anatomy and medical careers through the Operation SMART - My Girlfriend Zelda program.   Nonphysical self defense techniques, escape moves and violence prevention advocacy are skills being developed through Project Bold.  Girls are analyzing the messages in movies and implementing advocacy projects through Media Literacy.  Throughout the summer, over 200 girls  will be served through the Girls Inc. Outreach program.  Special thanks to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice for their support in helping all girls in our community be strong, smart and bold.
Girls Inc. Girls Meet My Girlfriend ZELDA!!
by Marisa Monroe, Program Director
This summer, girls of all ages are learning about anatomy, health, personal care and medical careers by participating in the Girls Inc curriculum My Girlfriend Zelda.  Zelda is a plush doll complete with internal anatomy that allows girls to explore the functions and purpose of various organs from digestion to respiratory to reproductive systems.

This fun curriculum allows girls to gain tools to be proactive in their own wellness and understanding and acceptance of their bodies while also learning about the wide variety of careers dedicated to health.
