We have teamed with Symphony Salvage and now have a clothing donation box on the back side or the property. Girls Inc. gets at least .10cents per pound for clothing, shoes, handbags and household items!

The Honorees
Thank you to our extraordinary sponsors, wonderful patrons, gracious guests - and of course our darling Girls Inc. Dream Girls - for making the 2010 Celebration Luncheon on March 23 a huge success. Special kudos to lead sponsors Sarasota Magazine, The Community Foundation of Sarasota County and Icard Merrill. We topped out at 840 guests - our highest attendance ever - who were there to honor Jaymie Klauber and Charlene Lenger with our "She Knows Where She's Going" Awards and Anand Pallegar with the newly-named Donna Brace Ogilvie Visionary Award. Everyone enjoyed shopping in the Girls Inc. Microsociety Marketplace, the singing and dancing of the girls, and the poignant messages of our confident young speakers. Because of you our girls can dream big!

Girls Take Flight
Over spring break, Girls Inc. girls learned about careers in aviation. Volunteer and pilot Michelle Raines along with the staff at Dolphin Aviation, scheduled a packed week of activities for the girls including a tour of SRQ Airport, a chance at flight simulation, lectures from female pilots and then a flight at Dolphin Aviation. The girls learned that the sky is the limit when discussing careers in aviation. Thanks to sponsors Powder Puff Pilot, Miss Aerial and Dolphin Aviation for all of their support of this program! |
Girls Inc. on the move
by Dawn Wiley, Outreach Coordinator Girls Inc. partnered with volunteer Anita Marcus and Booker High School to conduct an ACT Prep class for girls in Booker's College For Every Student program. Girls spent an entire week after school learning tips, strategies and approaches for each portion of the test. Sample testing showed dramatic improvements in the girls' scores. Each girl has college admissions or scholarships pending higher scores on April's ACT test. We look forward to each girl achieving her goal. |
