Courageous Resolution:

DO you solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for yourself,

your wife, and your children?

WILL you love them, protect them, serve them,

and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of your home?

WILL you be faithful to your wife, to love and honor her,

and be willing to lay down your life for her as Jesus Christ did for you?

WILL you bless your children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts,

all of their minds, and all of their strength?

WILL you train them to honor authority and live responsibly?

WILL you confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy?

WILL you pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion?

WILL you work diligently to provide for the needs of your family?

WILL you forgive those who have wronged you

and reconcile with those you have wronged?

WILL you learn from your mistakes, repent of your sins,

and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God?

WILL you seek to honor God, be faithful to His church,

obey His Word, and do His will?

WILL you courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of your life and for His glory?

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

JOSHUA 24:15

Sermon Notes:

1          The Key to Living with Confidence

2          II Timothy 4:1-2

3          "I charge you."

This command is used on six other occasions in scripture. It always precedes aclear and urgent command! It tells us, "Listen very carefully, this next part is life           and death stuff."

4          II Timothy 4:3-4

5          The Problem

"Many today are airbrushing the Word of God to make it palatable to those who go in for spirituality that costs nothing but the cover price of a best seller. Instead of our being conformed to the image of Christ, we want to conform His image, to oursad conditions."

            Dr. David Jeremiah

6          We need a sure Word from God.

            II Timothy 4:2

Paul gives us five commands concerning the Word of God; these directives nearlyjump off the page in their urgency and forcefulness.

            Preach!

            Be Prepared!

            Correct!

            Rebuke!

            Encourage!

7          PREACH THE TRUTH!

Paul tells Timothy that it's not enough to just acknowledge what is right; he must announce what is right. The word he uses for preach means, to proclaim with    formality and authority.

8          "Be ready. Be prepared in season and out of season."

The words be prepared means "to stand by, to be on hand." This phrase conveys more than the idea of just being alert. There is urgency in being ready the way Paul             describes it. It's the idea of a soldier standing on the wall at midnight, knowing theenemy is within firing distance.

9          We must also share God's Word intelligently. Paul uses three important words:

            Correct

            Rebuke

            Encourage

10        1          Our minds need to be convinced by the Word. To correct is to present an                                  argument or a strong appeal, something like an attorney presenting a brief.

2          Our wills need to be convicted by the Word. Paul's second word is rebuke. It   means to reprimand. It is synonymous with the word convict. In a spiritual context, it means to speak out against sin.

3          Our hearts need to be comforted by the Word. In Paul's advice to Timothy                                 the relevant word is encourage. The idea is to encourage with the goal of bringing someone along a path towards a positive end.
