Prepare to Go MGBC Missions Committee
Prepare to Go Project
Missions Speak! Last week 8/8/2010, we ended by asking, - What is a
CHURCH? Was your answer the same as ours? CHURCH We
wrote that "If we think about it, what would be the ideal environment in which
to make disciples both in the present and in the future? The obvious answer is
within a local church. This is why church planting is crucial to the mission
task as it is God's preferred method for making disciples". As
Jesus said, "... I
will build My Church, and the forces of Hades will not overpower it." Disciples
that are not connected to a local Church run the risk of being vulnerable to
wolves disguised in sheep's clothing. Being part of a strong church, however, provides the protection and
necessary training whereby one day the disciples are strong enough to be sent
out as "sheep among wolves." The tables
are turned. Moving
beyond merely planting a Church, what if it were possible to plant a Church
that in turn planted more Churches? This would ensure that the disciple making process would continue well
into the future. We need to make it a priority to plant Churches that will
plant other Churches. We believe that a Church is a group of
disciples who meet together to worship God, encourage each other, pray, and study God's Word (Oral or
Written). The
believers in a church should be Spirit filled, self-supporting, self-governing,
and self-propagating. In other words,
they are full participants in the Great Commission! The
believers should meet regularly and practice the two biblical ordinances: the
Lord's Supper and baptism. The
Church may meet in a building, in a house, or even under a tree. Worship may
include musical instruments or it may not. The church may be led by a trained
pastor(s) or by a lay person. In South America it is not uncommon for believers to meet 'under a
tree' to share stories from the Bible and learn God's precepts. Okay, sign me up. How do I get involved? I
want to be part of a ministry that works toward completing the great
commission. GETTING
INVOLVED If
we do indeed want to become involved, then You
and I must seek HIS Will and Ways that HE has for us personally, but we must remember
that he wants us to be a part of a group, a part or element of HIS Church! How
does each of us seek to find His Will & Way? The
answer may be, "do something, and try something! Prayerful listening, telling our story, witnessing,
attend and fellowship in our Sunday small groups, or Sunday school classes, are
all actions or traits that help to prepare us to go. Volunteer for a job to do in our Church. Attend Missions Seminars at every opportunity. We
are often reminded that making a mission trip doesn't make us a Missionary, but
neither does, 'NOT,' making one. We are
blessed because ample opportunity is available for each of us in this Myrtle Grove Baptist Church to participate. In
the vernacular of the day, Look and Listen continually! Get up and walk through a few doors, pray,
read, ask and seek for what God Wishes You to "DO".
As
stated above, one way to start is to attend the Missions Seminar that will be
held right here in our Fellowship Hall, next Saturday, August 21, 2010. Please
call our Church Office, (455-7389) and advise Betty that you will attend. The only reason for pre-registering is so that
we can prepare meals for you. There is
no cost. Both
breakfast (8:30 AM) and lunch (noontime) will be served in a great day of Missions
information. Listen for something that
interests YOU. This is a day Missions ideas, Missions challenges, Missions
methods, and workable Missions concepts, regardless of where you have a heart
to serve, locally, in our State, in North America, Indonesia, and or in the Americas.
Visit this e-announcement
spot next week to see if your answer is like ours! We are happy to be Your Missions Committee.
