About Maria |
My 10 years of design experience includes hundreds of design and colour consultations in the 4 years that I worked at store level with Benjamin Moore. Back then, my colleagues would say "Maria will drive anywhere for a colour consultation even if it's in the middle of the night". But I was committed to achieving mastery in colour, which is why I have seen and specified enough of it to be able to say that colour advice from me is definitely Advice from a True Expert! In addition to interior & exterior colour coordination my services include, space planning (can't buy furniture without a plan!),furniture selection, window coverings, styling and accessorizing your home. The Top 5 Myths about Colour Everyone should Know! |
1. A dark colour will make my room feel small, how about just an accent wall? What happens with just one wall dark and the rest white or light beige [right] is the dark wall advances and the light wall recedes to nothing, which creates way too much contrast.
Better to paint the entire room [left] the same colour (and even do a lighter shade on the ceiling) to avoid this effect. Any colour (other than white), even starting with a paler shade will make a room feel instantly cozier as well as create the mood and feeling that you want. White will not create a mood or feeling unless you are an architect and have a very modern, cool house with white furniture to match the white walls. Read " White is a Snob" for more on decorating with white.
