Challenge inspires pastor to win people back to Church
For some years now, Terrace Bay, a small town in Northwestern Ontario where our little mission of Saint Martin of Tours parish is located, has suffered a decline in population due to the instability of employment. The town's main source of income is the pulp mill, and it's been like the hand of a child playing "close-open": during the recent recession, it was closed for more than a year.
The town's struggling economy made young couples and families leave and look for better jobs in other places. It also created a "domino effect."
Outside, it could be a beautiful sunny day with a view of the lake, yet inside, there are souls who remain in dark bondage.
I have been away from Bloodvein not more than a week and already I have found nestsof letters and papers that need my attention. Right now, the most urgent need is to go into the highways and byways to proclaim the Good News to the unchurched, the drug-addicted, and those dependent on alcohol. Read more....
Sister Olivine Fiola, M.O.: A lifetime of following Christ

'My goal,' Sister Olivine says, 'is to see deaf people treated equally to hearing people. We need to train deaf people to become leaders in our church.'
Words couldn't convey the dying man's sense of happiness to Sister Olivine Fiola, a member of the Missionary Oblates of the Sacred Heart and Mary Immaculate (m.o.).
With summer here, we look forward to a little rest and relaxation. While our "daysof rest" find their roots in God's example of taking time off after the great work of creation, they also mark Israel's liberation from bondage in Egypt, and remind us that we, too, are no longer slaves.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states boldly that the Sabbath is "a day of protest against the servitude of work and the worship of money" (no. 2172).
