Greetings!
   Missions: Then and Now
By FR. PHILIP KENNEDY, PRESIDENT

Our magazine writers and those who make submissions to our publications have a good sense of what mission works were like long ago, and what missions are like now. That makes our magazine a kind of ongoing history of Christian faith over the period of a century or more, and what the beginnings of Catholic evangelization were like then compared to the present efforts at spreading God's Word.

Our website www.cmic.info  helps to give a picture of missionaries and their travails over the many years of growth. From the struggles of the Grey Nuns and the Oblate Fathers and their loving outreach to native peoples and non-natives alike, we have many images of faith-filled self-giving revealed to us. But the current stories of priests in the Arctic, in Labrador, and in the Northwest Territories, and of other missionaries in diverse places, getting around by snowmobiles, small planes, pick-up trucks, and sea-craft, all show a modern face to the same evangelical endeavours that the pioneers struggled with long ago. Catholic Missions In Canada assists such mission work still, and will continue to do so as long as we are needed.

Faithfully yours,

Activity Book

Ann Doucet (right), Communications chairperson of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Women's League Council in Rothesay, New Brunswick, presents a copy of Catholic Missions In Canada's activity book to Marilyn Holder, Religious Education coordinator at the parish. Entitled "John and Emily visit Catholic Missions In Canada," the activity book tells the story of two children who visit their uncle, a missionary priest, in the Northwest Territories. Geared for children in grade five and younger, the 48-page soft-cover book features full-page drawings by Canadian artist, Emily Mandy, and poses activity questions and word puzzles for children that are based on the themes of Canada's mission communities.

Catholic Missions In Canada was pleased to send 25 copies of the activity book to Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish! To order your copies or for more information about the book, please contact: Patricia Gyulay at 416-934-3424, 1-866-937-2642 or by email, activitybook@cmic.info
