Greetings!
Here is a Note from our Editor, Patria C. Rivera, which gives a short introduction to the summer 2010 issue of Catholic Missions In Canada Magazine.
Making a difference
For two years, Myrtle Ballantyne and Betty Highway together with a few others from Pelican Narrows took the 527-km journey from their northeastern Saskatchewan village to attend the one-weekend-a-month Aboriginal Stream Lay Formation program in the Diocese of Saskatoon. The trip took them seven hours each way, but no matter, the two Cree Nation women were determined to learn as much as they could about their faith and how they could impart it to the children in their community.

The name in Cree of Pelican Narrows is Opawikoscikan, which means "The Narrows of Fear." But fear was far from the minds of Myrtle and Betty when they resolved to reach out and share their faith with the children back home. Each week they have up to 70 young people participate in the children's liturgy program during Sunday Mass at St. Gertrude parish. In this summer issue, find out how our communities in the North live and share their faith.
Happy reading! May your summer be safe and be filled with abundant blessings for you and your family.
Faithfully yours,
(Rev.) Philip Kennedy
