Greetings!

Welcome to the first edition of Catholic Missions In Canada's e-newsletter!

Thank you for joining us in our exciting new initiative to keep you up to date and in touch with our missionaries and their ministries across Canada.

Each newsletter will contain a few brief articles prepared by missionaries that will highlight an aspect or special event that's taken place in their mission that they want to share with you, immediately.

I hope you'll enjoy these technological glimpses into missionary life here in Canada. It's a huge country and we're blessed at being able to stay in contact with you, and our missionaries, through email. I hope you'll stay in touch with us too! Please email your comments and suggestions to us on what you'd like to see in this e-newsletter.

Until then, enjoy your next few moments with our missionaries. Please keep them in your prayers, as you are in ours.

Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie, O.M.I., of Keewatin-Le Pas, opens session with Raymond Robinson
By Sister Carmen Catellier,S.N.J.M.

It was winter, it was cold, and it was nearing the end of January 2009, when the Emmanuel Process Team came to Cross Lake, Manitoba. Father Bill Stang, O.M.I., and Sister Ethel Detz, O.P., arrived with all their props and baggage along with our own Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie, O.M.I., of Keewatin-Le Pas. Read more
Being Good News to others
'A smile and a good word is not costly'

By Sister Jeannette Comeau, R.S.R.

As the days of summer wane, and our bank account gets low, what a blessing to receive a grant cheque from Catholic Missions In Canada. Our gratitude and sincere thanks go to all the contributors to Catholic Missions In Canada. The amount received last spring allowed us to do the waterproof work in the basement. Whenever we have rain, and we did have a lot since September, the basement floor remained dried. Moreover, the smell of dampness was completely erased from the house. How great!

On Mission Sunday, our prayers rose to the intentions of all missionaries and their supporters. Our people were invited to be "stay-at-home missionaries" with their prayers, bearing little pains to be offered to the Lord on behalf of our suffering world. May our lives be Good News to people around us. A smile and a good word is not costly, but can bring comfort and deep joy!

Sister Jeanette Comeau, R.S.R., is pastoral administrator of St. Joseph's parish, in La La Tabatière, northern Quebec.

SISTER BERNADETTE FEIST, O.S.UBY SISTER BERNADETTE FEIST, O.S.U.

Mom and Dad usually gathered the twelve of us children around the kitchen table for this prayer to say the Rosary.

Most of the prayers were said in German and Russian, so my mumbling was, "Stodda...stodda...stodda....Amen."  Read more
