USA Volleyball Player on "Extreme Makeover"
Tune in this Sunday, October 9 at 8 p.m. as U.S. Women's Sitting Volleyball Team player Katie Holloway makes her reality TV debut on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
Holloway, who was born without a fibula in her right leg and had her foot amputated as a baby, was invited to participate in this week's episode which features Anaiah Rucker, a young girl from Georgia who was severely injured in February after pushing her sister out of the way of an oncoming truck. The impact broke Anaiah's neck, injured her spleen and one of her kidneys, and broke both of her legs. Doctors had to remove her kidney and amputate her left leg above the knee.
When asked by NBC "Today" co-anchor Ann Curry why she did what she did, Anaiah replied, "because she is my sister." (Click here to view the segment that aired on the "Today" show.)
It took five surgeries and six week before Anaiah was able to head back to her house, a house that would soon be torn down and built back up to better accommodate her new needs and her love for basketball.
