Jose Banda, new leader of Seattle Public Schools, starts job July 1 

Jose BandaThe Seattle School Board May 16 voted 7-0 to approve a contract for Jose Banda to become the next Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools. Banda, the Anaheim City Schools Superintendent, will start his new job in Seattle July 1.

Nathan Hale radio station wins first place General Excellence award

Nathan Hale radio stationNathan Hale High School's C89.5 radio station won a first place General Excellence award on May 17 at the Washington 5th Annual State High School Radio Awards held at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. The radio station won the excellence award from among six school district radio broadcast programs across the state.

Middle schoolers to show projects at June 7 Seattle Science Festival

science fairApproximately 150 students representing 10 middle schools will participate in the Seattle Science Festival June 7 at the Museum of Flight. Students will have science fair projects on display that demonstrates their skills in experimental design and analysis, and content understanding.

B.F. Day Elementary celebrates 120th birthday

B.F. Day Elementary School celebrated its 120th birthday on May 4 with a school assembly of students, staff, families and alumni. B.F. Day School opened on May 2, 1892, and has the distinction of being the oldest continually operating school in the Seattle School District
